Default A4 tranny advice needed

I have a 99, vert, A4 with 130,000. Anyway, had some rear end leaks fixed but the guy wasn't sure about the tranny as it was slipping before I took it in, (low fluids from leaking). Forward, after the repair, it seemed ok, but still not like it was before. Now, it is noticeably shifting poorly, very soft, the RPM's aren't running high, but it really is a mess, and acts like it doesn't know what to shift to. Hope that makes sense, not quite sure how do describe it? Is it time for a new tranny, and if so, any reason not to get a rebuild. I think they are the
4L60E, which seem like a common tranny from GM. If I am wrong, please correct me. Anyway, looking for some suggestions here.
Thanks again! I've gotten so much useful info for this forum, its the best!:

It is a common transmission and you can probably find a rebuilt unit with a warranty for a reasonable price. Installation may cost you around a grand. With the mileage on your car I recommend buying a rebuilt from a reputable place. If you plan on keeping it a long time take a look at RPM transmissions.

Thanks, thats kinda what I am thinking. If I go that route, should I replace the torque converter as well? Since all of the major labor would be done.

Yes Replace both the transmission and torque converter. I got mine from RPM Tramission and had Speed South intall it. Labor was close to $1000 but its not a job you want to do with out a lift.
