Default Edmunds vs KBB?

Which one is more accurate? The difference between the two is VERY big.

When appraising a 2001 red z06 with 68k miles we have KBB at 17.6k very good condition

Then we have edmunds with..wait for it....13.4k in the same condition, 15.1k if it's from a dealer.

I've heard Edmunds is more accurate, but I'm guessing not when it comes to vettes?

I use nada they seem to be pretty level headed on values

I'm glad you said something, I agree NADA seems like a nice medium between the two. KBB seems too high, Edmunds seems too low

kbb isn't even high anymore. it just uses a mileage/age model

kbb says a 2010 3lt coupe with 100k is worth 19k

would love to buy one for that

NADA is the only book that goes off of dealer sales and dealer auction and trades

kbb and edmunds are simply BS marketing tools

NADA definitely seemed the more equal of the two. Sellers seem to love KBB though

they did when it was high, probably hate it now

kbb lists a typical 100k mile 2001 coupe under what it would close for on ebay

now kbb is just skewed on low mile cars

which shows you how idiotic they are. it's just a sliding scale someone dreamed up. has zero to do with real world closes, which of course nada does

The prices I've seen on this forum, it seems like most of them are dreamed up. This gives me a much better guideline, I'm surprised no one has pointed me to NADA before

"The answer is ... NADA."

(rip open envelope ... blow ... pull out question)

"What are the chances that KBB will provide a reasonable value for your vehicle?"

I just posted on another thread that we purchased a 09 Lexus RX. According to all three books, we overpaid. According to autotrader, Cars.com, ebay and CL, the cars at prices suggested by all thee books didn't exist unless you added 40K more miles and deleted the navigation/backup camera system, a deal breaker for us. I have no faith in any of the "books", KBB, NADA, Edmunds. I think they use a dart board when they pick prices.
EDIT: Oh yeah, you can add wrecked vehicles to the list of cars included in the analysis by the three books. Factors like 1 owner were not considered.

they don't factor in a lot of things

which is kind of the point about books being a starting point for an idea, not an absolute number in the sand like some people think they are

could have a "low mileage car"

one sat outside for 5 years and was raced every weekend

other was owned by a 70yr old and driven on freeways, always garaged

books say they are worth the same

I used NADA to negotiate my recent purchase. I was satisfied and so was the seller. The seller's bank used NADA for detemining collateral value.

Just ran the value of my car on NADA. Actual miles on mine is 4,600. OK, got a number. Just to be curious I ran it a second time with 46,000 miles and it only went down $750.

Does that seem right?

I agree with the others though, NADA seems to be the best.

nada uses actual closes, so few cars go though at 4600 miles the numbers are likely to be off, just no data, if you ever sold your car you would have to research where others have sold in that condition and that low of mileage

numbers are probably more in line on 40-140k mile cars since that's the overwhelming majority of the sales with the c5

I have found NADA to be closer on the real value of the cars.

I just ran retail values on my 2001 A4 Vert with 45,000 miles. Car has every option except the F45 suspension. KBB let me insert options to determine value and NADA didn't allow me to enter any options. Here are the results.
NADA - $20,450.00
KBB - $20,958.00

I think NADA seems more consistent across the board with it's pricing

Which is why you see so many Private Parties list their prices at NADA Dealer Retail all over autotrader.com
