Default GM spelling error?

I was low on gas and warning light came on "check gages" and there's a button on the right "gages" - I always thought it was "gauges?"

It's just a variant spelling of "gauge."

Definitely a reason to by the BMW. No typos on the dash.

I think that by leaving the "u" out, GM saved several million dollars in production costs.
