Why is my passenger side manual seat track rocking?
Hi guys,
I know this is a common problem with the driver side automatic seat tracks but I thought the passenger side manual track didn't have this issue. I was under the impression that it doesn't use those nylon washers?
Anyone know what the source is of the seat rock when using manual track?
Thanks
Luke

One or more loose mounting bolts would be the most obvious things to check.
Is the whole seat rocking or just play in the seatback? And is it a "rocking" (like it's rotating around a fixed point) or a "sliding" (fore-and-aft) motion?

It's a front to back rock... In other words the upper rail is rocking on the lower rail. Lower rail has no movement. Upper rail moves.
What's the fix? Again, I assume the manual rail doesn't have nylon washers (or does it)?

The only thing I could think of is that it is worn. The manual tracks do not have the part of the power tracks that causes the popular power seat rocking issue.

Here is a guide to help you fix the rocking seat - pretty straight forward and easy to do!

Does it make a noise like metal-to-metal clicking when it moves? I suspect there are some kind of plastic/rubber isolators that fit into the adjustment notches to prevent that...if they're worn, there will be play in the seat tracks.
Bottom line, you're going to have to pull the the seat out and get eyeballs on the bottom side to determine what's going on. Even if it is not fixable, whole track mechanism should not be all that expensive.

My '04 service manual has zero info on the manual seat, so I'm winging it...

I mean we are talking an 1/8" of forward/backward rock. If I push the seat forward I hear a very faint metal to metal. If I push it back, same thing.
I will just have to get the seat off and have a look.
