Oh man, thought my chirp was gone for good
Replaced my balancer, idlers and installed new Dayco belts, no chirp, for 1 month. Oh well, next I'll try the Gatorback, if it comes back just going to have to live with it.

I was chasing a squeeky belt for months... Changed it twice.. Checked all my pulleys.. Could not figure out what was causing it. Tried all the tricks like rubbing a wet bar of soap on it.. Applying different solutions..etc...
Finally something worked.. I applied a leather conditioner to the belt and the squeek goes away for a good 2-3 months.. I just reapply it when I hear it coming back.

Hope you get it solved - a chirp under the good gets very annoying.

I changed my chirping belt and it stopped for about a year then started up again a week or two ago. It only lasts about 5 miles 'till things warm up, so for now I'm going to live with it until I get a Gatorback belt.

And as to reapplying every couple 3 months, is your vette a daily driver or for weekend fun? ie, is the re-app based on miles or time? ...
Thanks...

IMHO applying belt lubricants and conditioners is not a permanent solution but a temporary bandaid fix at best. You need to find the root of the problem. A slightly misaligned pulley can cause noise. Check the edges of your belt for signs of rubbing.
A leaking water pump is also a possiblity as Chris308 suggests.

Recently changed my serpentine idler and tensioner pulleys along with a new gatorback belt. It helped some but the chirp persisted. Just ordered the same parts for the a/c system. Hopefully that will completely eliminate the chrip.

Pete...sounds like a good idea (pun intended). Curious tho, how do you apply the conditioner to the belt?...Do you dab a bit on your finger and then only apply along the outside (not the portion that touches the pulleys)?

I apply it with an old toothbrush while the car is running to the ribbed areas.

As for the temp fix/band aid comment, I agree, but I'm sick and tired of being embarrassed every time I pull up to a stop light or parking lot and having people stare not because of how awsome the car looks but because of how stupid it sounds....at wits end by now...

Well, after replacing both belts, both tensioners, and the water pump, I had blissfully quiet driving for quite awhile.
Then it returned and our local 'Vette guru (Tom Wong) noted some antifreeze getting on it, cleaned it up.....and I replaced the expansion tank, again....nice and quiet.
Then returned again.
He applied RTV silicone on the AC belt and even after a 1300 mile roadtrip, the squeak has NOT returned!!
