I replaced the complete AC tensioner on my 2000 3 months ago, replaced the harmonic balancer pulley, both belts and the top tensioner. My AC belt has already started chirping again, I don't think its the tensioner or the pully, can't imagine it wearing out in only 3 months.Going to try a Gatorback belt, hopefully that will resolve the problem. Very frustrating

Question re alternator heating up. Just how hot does your alternator get? Mine gets so hot can't touch. Recently had an intermittent problem with gauges showing alternator wasn't charging however had it bench tested and ok. I realize bracket for alternator is attached to the block so must get some heat transfer. Does anyone with another C5 2000 want to start your car and check the heat? Thanks guys and gals.

And how are you pretty sure it's not a belt? What did you do to try and isolate where the noise is coming from? If you drip a little water on the moving belt, like at the easiest place on the passenger's side leading up to the tensioner pulley, and the noise goes away, then it is the belt. And below the serpentine belt is another one for the AC. If the noise disappears when the AC is off and returns when the AC is on, it could be any of the components in that system and you test the belt the same way, by squirting a little water on it. The noise can be coming from any of the idler or tensioner pulleys, or the HB, or the alternator, or the water pump, and you have to try to find the source before changing all the parts one at a time. Most likely, statistically, it would be from the main serpentine belt, and if you replace it, get a Goodyear Gatorback to be the most reassured the chirping will not come back.
You can change the belt yourself in 5 min., can change a tensioner pulley in 5 min, an idler pulley in 5-10 min (a little harder to reach), and buy the belt at any auto parts store and save yourself a ginormous amount of money compared to going to the dealer.
