Two totally different animals...if you want straight line speed, bad gas mileage and can't take long weekend drives go for it! If you want something more well rounded, keep the c5z. Not knocking the camaro at all, it really depends on what you want out of a sports car.

Nothing made between 1993 and 2002 is worthy of the name Camaro. Gen4 F Bodies are garbage. Don't even consider it. Despite the one posters opinion, the last 30 years has proven mods add very little to the value of a car and the 4th gen Camaros are worth about as much as a pack of smokes.

My thinking behind it is I had plans to build the z. If I were to try and get it to the point of the camaro, I would have to spend 10's of thousands and still would recoup little of that money if I ever sold it. If I end up trading I actually will put money in my pocket

Hmmmm. ... I beg to differ ED....
Take my 2000 Firehawk.. purchased for $9K cash... Put about $2K into it ported heads, cam, Yank SS3600.... Sold it recently for $15.5 Drove it and enjoyed it for a couple of years...
Next up is a 93 Camaro Z28 Indy Pace Car... Purchase price, $4K...
(paint was bad) Repaint, new decals, ( $1400) Sold it for $7500 had it for 3 mo...
97 Camaro SS (roller) $1800..... Cleaned it up, waxed it, sold it for $3,000
To the OP.... I actually traded this fully built 00 Camaro Z28 + $6K cash for my current 01 C5Z... Had 78K original mi on it when I got it. the Seller want a "built" Fbod... and had grown tired of his stock C5Z.. HIS LOSS, MY GAIN....
Former Z28
My C5Z when I first got it...
Perhaps I am the exception... not the rule...
I say GO FOR IT...

I've had several F-bodys, The last one being Ground up built stroked and blown 10 second street car. The build quality on 4th Gen F-bodies is Sh$% . Even after replacing just about everything I was never happy with quality of the car itself. I would keep the Vette

I'll be honest, I've never been a fan of a Camaro past the late 60s - early 70s models. Sounds like the one you are considering is a real beast, and if you're looking for a change it could be a good trade for you, but I would have a hard time trading a Z for the car. But, you only live once and if the car checks out, let your conscious be your guide.

I've seen the Camaro for sale and have drooled over it. Personally, I would trade the Corvette for it. I've had both a C5Z, an LS1 Firebird and a couple LS1 Camaros, and I can personally say that a properly modified Fbody turns my crank the most. If you don't like it, you can always sell it, and make your way back into a C5Z very easily - it's not like they're particularly hard to find.

Inevitably, I bought a Corvette for a totally different reason apparently. Corvettes define capability to me...independent suspension, low weight, 2 seat/purpose built sports car, etc. A 9 second Camaro is no different than a 9 second S10 or a 9 second Nova...it's built to accelerate some random mass forward and the body only matters enough to house the seat you sit in. The fastest street legal car in the nation right now is an S10, which proves...the platform doesn't make a difference...it just takes money.
So...would I trade a world class, road course capable car for some random drag build...hell no.

I just realized I am a middle aged guy - but not an old guy. I'm neither rich nor have I had a mid life crisis yet. I've been building and modding cars since I was 14 - I've wanted a 'Vette since I was 12.
I learned a long time ago to build and drive what "I" like, not what other people like.
If that meant building a VW Bug that would regularly knock off 911's I did it just because it was fun.
I've raced and crewed and I'm still modding and driving what "I" like.
Once thing "being an old guy" has taught me is drive what "I" want and **** everybody else. I happen to hate the way F Bodies look, but I also have guys around me that HATE Corvettes. Did I listen to them? NOPE.
My advice - this car sounds well put together and may very well be one of a kind - you don;t buy it you know you'll kick yourself in the ***.
Go for it - nothing os forever and it ain't like its the last car you'll buy

Well I was supposed to see the car today. Halfway through the 6 hour ride, we hit bad construction and rush hour traffic, and pushing through just wasn't an option anymore seeing as I have to be up for work at 6am. I might try and see it at a later date. But I doubt it will last much longer. If it sells I don't think I'll be disappointed being "stuck" with my c5z. If I keep it the heads and cam sitting down stairs will magically make their way on the car come spring!

At the end of the day it is still a Camaro. No way I could do it. It boils down to what you want, Go fast Camaro or an American Icon. There is no way a 9 sec car would fill the void of not having a Corvette that after all these years still puts a smile on my face.

Camaro is an American icon as well. I would take a first gen or early second gen over a c5
