I prefer the feel of the C5, especially the C5Z, over C6 examples. The C6 is a better car on paper in every single way, but it doesn't evoke the same emotions as when I drive my C5Z. YMMV

just purchased a pristine, but HIGHLY MODDED, '03 Z.
She's raw, yet refined. Loud, yet elegant. 11 years old, yet relevant. You (us) C5 guys have the best-kept secret in Vette ownership right now. The C5 is the new mid-year, in my opinion, regarding styling that just never stops being relevant.

I agree 100%...the C5Z is an underrated superstar in the car world right now. This car has performance stats that are relevant by todays standards. There is nothing you can buy, in a stock reliable package, that will hang with this car on a road course on 4 wheels. It's the best buy on the market for several years, and I believe it continues to be.
I think your "mid year" statement may well be correct. These early Z's were lighter, FRC unique, the beginning of a fantastic era of performance that is hard to beat even today but yet retain some of that long standing Corvette flavor in terms of body design. The C5 was a game changer, and I think it'll be desired years ahead, for that reason.

Congrats! What a beautiful C5Z! Gotta love that C5Z body style. I will admit I have thought about "upgrading" to a C6, but everytime I look at my C5 Vert, I think "man do I love that car!". makes it impossible to just let it go...

So, I just bought my '03 Coupe. I wanted a Corvette, and was shopping for a C6 GS. Drove one, it was awesome, yet as you said...somewhat cold. I found a C5 on Craigslist listed close to a price I could pay cash for (I'd need a loan for the GS), and went to drive it just to see how I liked it. Low and behold, I loved it. The C5 is completely stock, and the GS I drove was completely stock, but for some reason, the C5 spoke to me more. Less power, worse brakes, terrible interior (though better designed), but the overall car is a blast. It seems to drive very similar overall, and it's still rather quick, but overall it's just more fun...in an intangible way. I got the seller down to a price I could pay cash for, and haven't looked back. I've been driving it daily for 2 weeks now and it's been awesome.

Not too long ago a professional driver posted his impressions of the C7 after driving one on the track. IIRC, he said that it was almost as good on the track as the C5Z. I've never driven either and never been on a track but that was a surprising statement to read.

Similar situation to mine. When started looking it was C6 all the way until I realized the feel was similar but fun factor was increased in C5, and being able to pay cash vs. loan added more grins to the occasion! Great bargain and close enough in speed and handling that just a few mods can take care of.
I have a reasonable amount of track driving experience, mostly with old Porsches. I had the chance to drive a friend's C5 Z51 a few years back and couldn't believe how much fun it was, and how fast I could go. There were a number of frustrated 911 drivers after that session. That was actually what got me started on the C5 kick. I haven't had the chance to drive a C7 yet, but considering how well the C5 does, I really can't imagine it being THAT superior...especially when factoring the price.

Before I bought my 2000 vette I was told the C5's are much more fun to drive thent he C6's, After 8 years of owning a C5 I still have no complaints about it heck it's been pretty much the best car I've ever had. But I have always liked the body style of the C6 better, just never have convinced myself that it would be worth the change up especially after all the storys of people switching back to C5's from the C6's.
Dunno but most people make the C6 sound boring to drive...

I somewhat agree, the C5 is the modern mid-year. However the C6 GS/Z06/ZR1 is a step above IMO.
Of course I am comparing stock to stock. The C5 platform does have a ton of potential and will keep up or beat more modern vettes on the track with minimal track goodies.
I went from a pristine 04Z with some of the best goodies to a '12 GS Centennial. I'm very happy with the move.
