2001 C5 sounds?
Greetings all!
I have a 2001 C5 that I purchased last week and the car is awesome! A few issues are happening. The car as 113,000 miles.
1) There is a clunk sound with slop when i shift the auto trans in any position, P, D or reverse. I'm guessing U joints?
2) A slight clunk sound when I drive off and it seems to happen as the trans shifts from lower gears even though if shifts nice and strong as it should.
3) A weird buzzing hissing sound until the car has fully warmed up. Any of you experienced with this have any ideas please???

Thankyou Ill get the u joints checked out right away. And thanks for the input. The car really runs strong otherwise. Any idea a general cost for the u joints to have it done?

Check again to make certain that clunking noise is not the WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY. Have one person move the shifter from drive to reverse with their foot on the brake, while a second person gets near the rear wheels to see if they can hear/locate that clunking sounds. The C5 wheel bearings do go bad if the car is used hard.

Also check that the rear axle nuts are tightened to spec (130 ft-lbs IIRC). Had a clunk in my M6 that sounded like a U-Joint and turned out to be a loose axle nut. Check by rocking the rear wheel back and forth when parked and listed for a clicking that seems to come from the center of the hub.

To the best of my knowledge, there aren't any.... The "driveshaft", which is enclosed within the torque tube, has two rubber "biscuits", otherwise known as "guibos", that attach the shaft at each end. The rear end uses CV shafts, to connect the wheels to the differential.

Thats good to know and thanks for the info Leadfoot! I'm learning this car from scratch so I really appreciate any knowledge acquired by my Vette friends! So that tells me rear end axle bearing assembly then. I understand the bearings cost average $600.00. Anyone ever have this done. I'm wondering what the cost would be to have this done?
