Default Tire's Hankook or Nitto?

Direct question for racers not waxers. I plan on replacing my tires and have narrowed my choice down to either Hankook Ventus V12 or Nitto Invo. I like to run HPDE, and Autocross. I drive to these events so I do not want an R compound tire. I have Hankooks now, just curious about the Nitto's

I have a modded 98 and have used the hankook rs3 with good luck on the road . Look into them as they are a step up from what you mentioned. now went to toyo r888 and wow ultimate fun factor.

As I mentioned I do not want an R compound tire since, I drive to the events. Am familiar with those just looking for comparision between the Nitto and Hankook.

If you run AutoX then don't get either because they will both be about the worst choice for those events.

Spend the extra money for a Bridgestone RE-11, Michelin PS2/PSS, even the Nitto NT05.

I plan on taking some long road trips so R COMPOUND tires are not a smart choice. I have done quite well running autocross with the Hankooks. I run for fun don't care if I win an autocross event or not.
I have won several and was a former regional class champion for 4 years in a row.
Just would like an answer to my direct question.

Proud to be a dedicated, devout "waxer".

My car sits on Hankook Ventus V12 evo tires while I happily wax away.

I have been doing HPDE's for 3 years on Hankook RS3's (tread wear 140). Excellent tires. I also run them on the street. As of 2014, Hankook no longer makes the RS3 in the 140 tread wear.
It is now 200 tread wear for the AutoX and the drifter crowd.

I think we understand what you're asking and the answer is neither will be better or worse than it's counterpart. Especially if you don't really care about the performance of the tire since you just go to AutoX events to cruise around.

But since that's not the answer you want to hear, just get the ones that look cool or are cheaper or whatever other metric you want to use.

I know that probably sounds very rude and it's not my goal. I have experience with the Hankooks and I think they are the wrong choice for my mostly stock Z06. Lots of negative reviews on here about the Invo as well.

I've run Evo V112's on my auto-x track cars for years. I'm like you and don't want to go with R-comps, and like to get some life out of my tires. While the sidewalls are a bit soft which can make them a bit rolly, I've had sets on 4 different cars now and I find them unbeatable for the price. Sure you can spend more and get a better tire, but tires wear quickly from auto-x and track days, and I usually get decent life out of my Evo V112's, and they usually grip the same from new to end of life. I've had Dunlop Star Specs and Kumho XSs in the past, and while they're great and grip better, they wear significantly faster. I also found that the star specs got greasy toward their end of life, while XSs were downright dangerous in the wet. Evo's just keep on going.

While I can't comment on the Nittos, the previous owner of my car put a new set of Evo V112's on my car last spring, and I'm pretty pleased with that. I'll burn them off over the course of the next few years and probably get another set when they're done. The bang for your buck is extraordinary.

And why does that matter? It's just stamped 200 now instead

OP, what class are you running in at autocross?

With the BMW club all non BMW run in the same class. I run C stock with my BMW. NCCC I run in a Mod. class, in Tri State Sports B race.

I only run 1 or 2 autocross events per year anymore I prefer HPDE. I drive over 300 miles round trip to some of these events and also like going on over the weekend cruises with the clubs I am. that can total over 1000 miles. That's why I don't want or need an R compound tire.

Default Yokohama 008

Switched to these this last year. Not cheap But stick like glue. Very quiet on the hwy for a performance tire. Excellent in rain. Auto crossed these and was more than impressed. Only the top guys on gumballs went faster at all my events this year. Try them and you will like them.

GAWD, IF THIS is the typical attitude in the c5 section I'm glad I'm keeping my 77 c3 and the c5
.. at least they're polite when they disagree...

Yeah well, when you drive an old and usually extremely slow c3, you have to be polite. LOL.

Kidding aside, do you really have to come here scolding people like that? Silly comments from a couple posters I agree but this is the internet where extreme opinions and smart asses are plentiful...the c5 section on the CF is no exception. No need for the "polite police" either IMO.

Anyhow, take care and have fun in the "polite" section. .

Let's get back to the entertaining posts now...

Have NT05's on the rear of my '04Z (and front of my '95 M3) and when the front NT555's wear out I'll probably stick NT05's up there.....

I'm running the Bridgestone RE-11 on my daily driver, not a corvette. And used it for a number of highway trips. No HPDE events but got 18K on the set before it needed to be replaced. They are a very good tire. The newer RE-11A are even better. Quieter but slightly harder compound.

I just put a set of NT05's on my '99 FRC with stock C5 Z06 wheels/suspension. This is my first Corvette, but I do have 20+ years of SCCA, POC/PCA, and NASA experience with plenty of used-up R compound tires in my past.

Just came back from a 550 mile road trip with lots of 8 to 9/10's mountain driving and have to say I was very impressed with the Nitto's, including some rain mileage. The break-away was very linear, and the limits felt very high for a non-R compound street tire...and far less road noise than the stock Goodyears!

Take this for what it's worth as I've never driven the other tires mentioned, but very pleased so far.

Barry
