Vinyl or leather for new seat upholstery?

Just for thought. Only a portion of our seats is actually leather. The perforated seating area is the only part of the seat that is leather. The other areas are vinyl. I just replaced sections of the driver's side bolster and was able to match quite nicely the original material. The more important issue in my mind is the quality of the foam seat material. I'm 250 lbs and 6'5". The seat gets some abuse from my big butt so the foam was replaced at the same time. I had a local upholstery shop to do the work and the whole bill was $200. It looks great. Good luck

My driver's seat cover just recently split (center seam about 6 inches long) and will need to be replaced. I'm looking to go with a leather and alcantara combo from the guys in the following link. https://www.interior-innovations.com...duct_detail/63 Not sure if anyone on here has any experience with them but they look promising to me and at a reasonable price. I may convert from the standard seats to the sport seats covers since it's just a modification to the foam seat back that would be necessary.

My not so real leather, leather seats.
Seats are no longer in the car, but they did wear well, although the blue did wear off some of the piping where I got in and out of the car.
That's what I done with these seats.

Thanks for all the input on this. I did replace the foam in my driver's seat about 5 years ago.
Just ready for a change now. I'm thinking synthetic is the way to go.

I have their leather covers on my car, and they fit great with new foam. They also do custom work.
I just found the thread and I'll post the link here.

I believe they are a forum sponsor too now. I seen a thread on here in the last 2 weeks. There was already a link to their web page but here it is again.

As far as I'm concerned, this thread is like comparing a fake leather jacket to a real one. Which would you prefer?
I know what my answer is. There is nothing that compares to real leather in a car. The smell and the feel is what does it for me. I actually replaced not only the crap GM seatskins with real leather but also the Ebrake and shift boots, and the center console cover. Believe me, no one questions whether I have real leather in my car when they get in for the first time.

I just recently replaced the seats in my 2001. I hated the way the vinyl looked. The original leather portions actually looked very good at replacement but the vinyl looked shiny and worn. I chose leather seat skins from DJ Motorsport. Their price was the best and I had read many opinions on the various skins available, everyone seemed to be very pleased with the quality. In addition to skins I received a leather shift boot, leather ebrake cover and leather cover for console between seats. I also purchased new seat foam. I did the entire replacement myself (with no prior experience). First seat about two hours (slow and methodical to make sure it was right). The second took less than 30 minutes. Everything was perfect and the seats have made me quite happy. Nice and firm. Leather quality is excellent and of course, the smell of leather is fantastic. I have not looked back and would never go back to the OEM type. My OEM seats lasted 13 years and it was the vinyl that gave out, the leather looked very good. I suspect a full set of leather seats that are cared for appropriately to last beyond that. In addition, there really was no noticeable fade on the OEM surfaces, just the vinyl areas and the velour patch. I have included a photo of mine...not a great pic but if you want some during day light let me know.
