That mod is done with most supercharger kits. Mine is completely boxed in with aluminum by A&A Corvette. I'm fairly sure the reason is to direct air through the intercooler and radiator when you have a supercharger.

Same idea I have to keep air around the filter. I don't think I'll gain anything, but I'm bored.

Interesting. What do you plan on making the final version out of (assuming it is not a final version now)?

Some sheet metal at my friends shop. Then paint it either car color or matte black.

I did that with mine when I installed my AFE last year. Made mine out of aluminum and just left it. I put the front lip under the fasteners that hold on the front cover. The sides on mine go to the front frame on both sides. Didn't take any pics though.

Wow, that looks way better than stock, lol. I think keeping the stock air filter housing and installing a premium filter would avoid this issue...IMHO>

I actually did the same thing about a year ago. I made one to help keep the filter away from engine heat when waiting for the Christmas tree to turn that last yellow. Does it work? Who knows, but theoretically the filter grabs more external air this way. Only took a few minutes of time, no money, and it doesn't add weight. It's cardboard.

Good work OP

I actually made mine to keep the filter dry, and to pull air from behind the front bumper. I do drive my car daily during the summer rain or shine.
