My V1 was purchased new now I'm looking at another 100 bucks for the upgrades.
If you find a good used one with a high S/N you will save a few bucks
Check the S/N out here when purchasing a used unit
BTW. The Junk-K filter is especially necessary with K band collision avoidance systems on other cars.
Luckily the CHP use Ka band exclusively so I have tuned my ear to ignore all K alerts.
None the less the upgrade will be greatly appreciated.

I love my v1. bought one new in 2004, still works great! Havent done one upgrade yet.
Only thing I dislike is that it picks up laser from other cars with the tech these newer cars are coming with as far as lang changing assistance and parking assistance.
but other than that, I love it. Especially with the arrows. It's def helpful to know if the threat is slowly coming up behind you, or you are coming up on it. And then also helpful to know when you have passed the threat.

If you're thinking of using a radar jammer to avoid speeding tickets, think again. Radar jammers are illegal.
Using a radar jammer is a federal offense that can result in a $50,000 fine and/or five years in prison.
The FCC is very strict about radar jammers which have been illegal since 1996. That means individuals are not allowed to use or sell the devices. Not only that, the FCC bans businesses from advertising the jammers in the first place.

'Dude', that's similar/close to 'not' having the right to bear arms!!

From the V1 manual:
1. Valentine One is defined as a radio by the FCC. It
receives only. It’s a passive device that in no way interferes
with the communications or business of others.
2. The Federal Communication Act of 1934 guarantees
the right to receive radio transmissions of all types on
all frequencies. Traffic radar is not privileged communication:
in fact, it’s not communication of any sort
because no information is conveyed to another party.
It is surveillance by radio waves, and that is not
protected by any laws.
3. Some states and municipalities have laws prohibiting
the use, or the possession, or both, of radar detectors.
Please check local regulations before using your
Valentine One.
Seems rather draconian to outlaw a radio receiver. Says something about those states!

told me their algorithms change over time and makes the 8500 more accurate.... if it improves false hits and expands on the accuracy it cant be a bad thing for a totally operational Escort rather than buying new.

1st - talked with Escort Radar and they told me there were no updates available for my 8500. then he tells me if I send in my unit they refurbish it for $140 bucks plus shipping.
2nd - How are they going to refurbish it if there are no updates available for my older unit ?
3rd - Trade-in for it on a newer model is only $80 bucks....
So with that said, I managed to chase down someone selling a 5 month old V1 with they're most current firmware for CHEAP. They just wanted to get rid of the V1 since they weren't using it as much they thought they would , so I purchased it !
