Does your PCV valve short hose look like this?
I was going to remove the PCV valve to inspect it and found this. The short hose looked good on the car.
Some oil was around the valley cover fitting under the hose and this was why. The rubber was dried up and the hose was cracked almost in two, the allen wrench shows how far.
I made this so that the valve can be out of the hole it was in and more accessible. It is now in line with a 3/8" hose fitting on both sides, it won't leak and holds the correct valve.
Here's the old compared to the new.

That is some really nice fabrication work you did.

I had the same problem on my 98, You can't buy just the PCV holder from GM, they want you to get the whole line with the PCV in it, I opted for a similar fix as the OP, Although mine is just out of spare rubber hose I had lying around

My LS1 99' Camaro did the same exact thing. I'd hear a hissing when driving with the windows down, and occasionally get a check engine light for "unmetered air entering system". Turns out one day I found the leak, this exact same piece. I spliced in a piece of fuel system hose and called it a day. The Vette I have now has no issues with it.
