Default LS1 2002 Normal operating TEMP ? and electric Fan degree ?

I have 99965 miles on my LS1 and I am noticing around 220-240 when i beat on it and when its at idle or traffic

but when i turn ac on the temp stays under 200 and around 194 always no matter what i do to the car bat on it or idle or in traffic

im thinking the regular fan isn't coming on ?

hmm i know the AC being on leaves the ac fan on and that's why temp is always under 200 when that's on, but AC fan comes on with ac being on but when is the reg fan suppose ot come on what temp turns it ON?

and whats normal operating temp

Normal temp when driving down the road is around 200 - 210. When the car is stopped the temps will climb. The fan should turn on at around 229, and cool the car, when stopped or in stop and go traffic. When you turn the A/C on the fans should come on.

Or tune it and have fans to come on earlier ?

OR ??!!

Clean the radiator. That's the first thing I would do. These things suck up a lot of junk. Your temps aren't crazy out of this world high, but it could run cooler. I've had two c5's with vararams installed on them, and those brought the temps down about 10-20 degrees below the 200 degree mark, plus it will add a couple of H.P.

I didn't know there were two versions. Both were dual cold air intakes through the front grill/foglight section.

Here ya go. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...r-your-c5.html
Best dammed invention for your hot Corvette.
I bought this kit a couple of months ago, and it cools the engine quickly when stopped in traffic.
Took less than 3 minutes to install.

Bob.

Factory temp settings are low speed on at 226 degrees and off at 219 degrees. High speed on at 235 degrees and revert to low speed at 226 degrees. Both fans run at low speed and high speed and fans are commanded off by the PCM when the vehicle speed exceeds 35mph.

You can force low speed operation at 185 degrees by turning on the AC. High speed operation with AC on is still 235 degrees.

Default Heat !!

One small trick/mod that I did 9 years ago when I was looking at trying to find ways to lower running temps in the engine and engine bay, was to open up the front fog light housings. This allows forced air movement through the engine compartment at all speeds and actually makes the function of our side vents a more efficient design in extracting/exiting of the bays higher air temps. The one small draw back is that it does dust up the engine bay a little quicker, but it is a small trade off. I took a 1 1/2'' hole saw and made three openings per side and then put stainless mesh behind it to minimize any road debris to enter through. It costs nothing, but a little time and adds a little race mod look to the front as well. Some folks have also cut and removed portions of their hood seal to allow the extraction of both venting temps as well as trying to reduce pressure build-up in the engine compartment at high speeds, I personally haven't done this but am just bringing it up as others have done this. One absolute bit of advice, take out and inspect and thoroughly clean the radiator. Anyway, good luck in all your attempts to resolve your heat issue's !!

Buy a COOL IT unit, install it and then push the button.

The fan comes on and stays on until you push the button again or turn off the motor.

The 'Cool It" unit will make no difference if the OP has a restricted radiator or other issues. They are worthwhile to have when everything is working properly or the OP can have a local tuner lower the fans turn on points. Lots of posts about heating problems, but most stem from plugged or restricted radiators/A/C condensers from lack of maintenance through the years.

This may help...was posted by someone else but, it make perfect sense.

Many will install a 160* thermostat and have the fans programmed to turn on around 170* to 180*. The combination of a lower temperature thermostat and the fans coming on at a lower temperature will help regulate coolant temperature around 170* to 180* during normal idle and cruise conditions.

Well duh ... but I think that was all covered in the other posts.

Don't let anyone fool you, it does work and it works great.

Sounds like the "cool it" and the 160* combo would be your ticket to a cool ride in florida. Keep that radiator clean too

I installed a cool it fan mod and have not seen any real difference in temps. Mine runs around 198 - 200 cruising and I thought the mod would bring it down to around 185 or 190 but it didn't. I know my temps are in line with what it should be but I wanted it down a few degrees if possible. I blow out my rad regularly, so I assume it is clean.

Might try adding the 160* thermostat...it should help to regulate the temp a bit cooler. If it has been a while or if you have never taken the radiator out to clean it you might consider that as well, they can appear to be clean untill you get it out and then you have an OH S%+# moment and realize just how clogged they can get...just sayin.
