Default C5 Convertible trunk lid opening

When I activate the trunk release on my 2004 convertible it opens but not enough for me to get my fat fingers around the edge to lift it up. Is there a fix for it to pop open further or is there some type of handle available that can be installed on top of the lid to raise it when it pops open? Any help would be appreciated.

Search truck popper, I put one on my vert, works great and easy to install.

CorvetteMods (http://www.corvettemods.com) has a spring assist that will help. Part number 1014.

Mine did the same thing. I installed the trunk popper and it worked fine for awhile then my trunk would'nt stay up so I got new trunk shocks and now it pops up about 2in. The shocks were only about $20.00 shipped and about 5min install

I have a '03 vert which is almost as old as yours...try lubricant as WD40 on latch mechanism before you start screwing s@#* on your trunk lid. Works for me..gotta do it annually.

The probable cause is your struts are shot.

No holes are drilled, you simply remove a screw, place the spring in place and replace the screw in it's original hole.

The real issue is the struts. As they age they don't have *** much grunt, replace them and your problem will be solved with an added bonus of the lid staying open all the way up, even in a moderate breeze.

I pop the truck inside button and then open and closed the door which forces the air in the trunk to help open it much further so you can open it. I have larger fingers too, works every time.

If you want to spend $22.00 for a spring and cap, buy the Corvette Mods item. Otherwise buy it from the hardware store for $5.00

I installed new struts. The difference in opening distance between new and old was quite small. I did not want to install the spring on my trunk because I did not like the way it hung down with the trunk open. (Purely my preference, not a knock on the product.) Accordingly, I just open and close the door with the windows up on my 2001 Z-06. This pops the trunk up a good two inches after I activate the remote. Sometimes simple is the best.

Struts made by "Strong-arm" - about $30 for the pair.

Had this problem on my '01. It had a "popper" and still would not open much. Bought new struts which helped for a short while. Finally found a post on CF that recommended lubricating the spring that pops the latch itself. It is located under the carpet at "female" or lower portion of latch for the lid. Lubricated the coiled part of the spring with some PB Blaster and have not had a problem since. Recommend you try this before buying new struts.

I fiddled with spring which I just did not like the look of, personal preference as stated in another post. A couple of drops of oil on the latching mechanism does the trick. It pops up about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.
Enough to get a hold of it. Rinse/repeat as needed. It takes one minute of your time.
