I will post better pics soon to show different angles once I get the Phadt coilovers installed....... First, If you are going to mount the OEM c6 zo6 19x12 wheels using stock fenders you will need to go with a 305-30-19 size on the 19x12 wheel this helps with the lower offset the c6 zo6 wheels have and keeps the wheels/tires right at the lip of the fenders. If you go with a 325-30-19 or a 345-30-19 tire size on the OEM 19x12 wheels they will stick (poke) out considerably more and would need a wide rear fender upgrade. I did not like the look of the fender flares on the C5 as I feel it takes away from the smooth sleek factory lines from the car that is why I mounted 305-30-19 tire size. Keep in mind also tire manufacturers vary in tread width even on same tire sizes which will make a difference in overall width.

Examples of 305-30-19 tire manufactuer tread widths

Hankook V12 Evo2...........10.8"
Pilot Super Sport..............11.7
Bridgestone RE-11...........11.1"
Pilot Super Sport PS2.......12.2"
Pirelli P-Zero...................12.0"
Continental Extreme DW...10.8"
BF Goodrich S-04 Pole ......10.5"
Nitto Invo.......................10.8"

as you can see if I went with a Michelin Pilot PS2 305-30-19 tire it would have been 1.4" wider just in tread width which would make it (poke) stick out more.

Ultimately it is all about what kind of look your wanting to achieve and then pursue it.

P.S. I have a buddy who is running 345-30-19 on same wheels with stock fenders and...... Damn!!!! did they stick out maybe 2-2.5"..he said he liked it... so to each their own I guess.

One other thing to all the haters......I have driven my c5 very very hard and fast and for several hundred miles since this wheel/tire upgrade and have had no problems with a 305-30-19 Hankook Venus Evo 2 on a 19x12 wheel

Tread width and tire width are two different things. the designation 305 is millimeters. this means the tire at its widest point is 305mm or 12.007 inches. some tires are much more square than others. This is because the design of the tire sidewall and the tread could be up to 12.inches. but could be an inch or so less ( never more than 12 inches )But a 305 will be 12 inches wide at it widest point. with a stock quarter panel depth being 11.5 inches, and the need for 1/2 in clearance on the inside of the wheel well for suspension geometry rotation. and if the back space is correct allowing for the 1/2 in. clearance, the tire and the wheel will stick out an inch. That does not mean the tread will stick out that much.

The height of the side wall of the tire is the aspect ratio ( the center number ) 30% of the width. 12inches wide with 30% aspect =3.6 inches. Tread depth plays a part in the overall diameter. the very same tire designation can have variable diameters based on the tread depth. so if you have a 19 inch wheel add 3.6 Plus 3.6 ( top and bottom ) and the tread depth you have the diameter. 19 + 3.6 +3.6 ( top and bottom= 26.2 add thread depth (top and bottom) eg. 10/32 = .312 +.312 = .624 total 26.2 +.624
= 26.84 diameter.

I agree regarding section width as it is the same on all 305 series tires... but I know overall tire width from my own experience that tire manufacturers tread widths vary which effects overall width of tire but not section width (Example a 305-30-19 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 will stick out about one further then a 305-30-19 Hankook Venus V12 Evo2)...Why is this?... maybe tire manufacturers measure differently to get there tread widths. In the end 305-30-19 Michelin PS2s are overall a wider tire then a 305-30-19 Hankook Evo 2

I don't think their measurements are regulated or standardized. I've heard plenty of reports that tires fit differently depending on brand. I've also heard 325 width invos fit similarly to 305s of other brands. Some of the differences are probably from the sidewall designs and curb protectors, but it would still be nice if everything fit similarly from brand to brand.

Manufacturers decide what percentage of tread width to section width they want to use.

Section width is the measurement from sidewall to sidewall based on a rim width they choose.

The Michelin is a wider tread width tire, not section width. Which in turn gives it a wider look

Do they stick out past the fender? a little bit

Im running a 13 inch rear on a stock body with a 295/30/19 stretched

No mini-tub and no flares

Could fit a 305 but not more then that or it will start interfering with the fender

Your car looks great man, but I feel as if that tire fitment on the rim may cause loss of seal during a spirited turn and decide to walk off that rim. Is that a concern of yours?

Anyways, nice looking setup

lol thanks for the positive post, I know its gonna catch a lot of negative feedback with this crowd but its my car and ill do it my way regardless

And yea that's a common worry when people see a "stretched" tire, but ive never seen it happen nor has it ever happened to me in my past set ups so im not too concerned about it

So I will ask the engineer, what effect will these larger rim/tire combos have regarding rotational weight and performance as compared to the stock factory set up?

Am I correct in assuming the c5 zo6 set up is the ultimate one for performance from an engineering standpoint? When the c5 was being developed, how much emphasis was given to tire/wheel set up?

Looking forward to your insight from a first hand perspective. TIA

Im sure it depends on what kind of performance you want

Do you want low end torque , quick pick up speed or high end top speed?

Straight line or cornering etc.....

There wouldn't be one size that is best for all applications

I don't think much thought was put into the sizing of the Z06 wheels at the time, because they have continually gotten bigger as the years went on, I think the c7's are now running a 19/20 combo, so they seem to be more about following what is trending rather then what is best for performance

How do your cars ride with the wider and therefore heavier wheel, tire combo? When I put 315's on my c4, they look great but the ride is noticeably worse going over bumps, expansion joints. My c5 has stock wheel, tire setup for now but those wide rims and tires look really good. Gives the car a much more aggressive look. Any body checked weight difference from stock rim, tire to 12" wide?
