Measure the resistance of the pellet on your key then refer to the following chart to identify the key number that matches your resistance.
I have bought several keys from Ebay. They sell them by the key number. I have had NO issues with keys bought from there. A friend recently needed a key for his new to him 04. I found one on Ebay that was about $15 shipped but it had a GM logo rather than the Chevy Bow Tie. He had to have the Bow Tie and paid about $24.
Try a dealer but I think they will be far more expensive than Ebay.

The dealer can give you the correct 'resister' reading from the VIN.
Any competent locksmith will know the correct procedure for getting the correct 'pellet'.
Make sure that you check the key out before you pay for it.

Use an ohmmeter and measure with the black lead on the pellet on one side of the key and the red lead on the pellet on the other side of the key. Pay attention to the scale on the ohmmeter so you know you're getting 600 or 6000 ohms. It should be within the tolerances on the table you have been provided.

I got a pair of keys and pair of fobs for like $75 on ebay. Measured my key, ordered the right pill, I think it was $8 to get them cut at Ace Hardware.

Went to ebay and found GM double sided keys as cheap as $7+...
HOWEVER they say they will not fit a Corvette
Is this true of are all GM cars of the same year use the same key...???
OF COURSE the keys said to fit a Corvette are more money...is this just another example of the Corvette tax...???

My local locksmith (IT customer of mine as well) completely rebuilt the lock cylinder and a new key for $20. She matched my key with one with the correct resistance. My old lock cylinder was so worn, I could take the key out with the car running. New key, new lock cylinder and all is now 100% and only $20 OOP.
