Congrats man. I just got my first vette in September at age 50. It had been 20 years since my last sports car and I knew it was time. I got a 2002 black on black coupe with low miles, from the original 80 year old owner, and I'm still smiling. Best $14,500 I ever spent. 😉

So one problem for now. The rear tire pressure sensors don't appear to be working. When I first start it up I get the warning on the dash. When I page through the gauges the rear pressure for L and R is XXX

as ugly as the split window decal is, it's not really a bad sign per se. buying these cars from old men who cruise them around is wonderful. many cars with average miles aren't in the condition some c5s are.
just be careful. these cars are old and some are beat to hell and back

Those with the right expertise to help you will not know you have a TPMS issue since your topic was buying tips on buying a C5.
With that said it would seem your batteries are bad. You could try to see about reprogramming the sensors. You must reprogram all of them, you can't just do one or two.

If you like the "split window" decal then keep it! It doesn't matter what others say! It's your car now and congratulations on the beautiful car.

FWIW.
In my case I had to think of what I wanted ( and what I didn't ) in a C5. Color, options, transmission, mileage, condition. From there I came up with my max $ number. And then I shopped. Don't rule out places like Ebay (found mine there) or the possibility of traveling to look at or pick one up. Also, when considering an out of town purchase ask the seller to take it to a dealership if you are serious about purchase, and have a pre-sale inspection done. I think I paid 150.00 for mine and got a three page report. Money well spent.
Good luck with your search !

Rayycer, Good luck with the new to you Vette. I know the feeling of being in your 60's and feeling fortunate to be able to buy a C5. It's a great feeling to scratch that itch.

The best advice I can give you I read on the c4 forum after I bought my ruby red with 124k miles on it. Buy the car with the lowest mileage for the most money you can spend. It rang so true. I spent more money on repairs I should have bought one with less mileage.
