Default Burning Smell after Installing Braided Hoses

I installed a set of braided hoses a few months ago and lately I've noticed a burning smell when the car is stopped after driving a few miles.

I didn't notice any smell after originally installing the hoses as I was driving top-down most of the time. However, I've noticed the smell on my last two extended road trips (50+ miles) as I had my top up and the AC on.

All the gauges and DIC feedback have temps in the normal range and the fluids are at the right levels so I'm just wondering if it has something to do with the braided hoses? The only other maintenance I've peformed was emptying the catch can.

Noticed any oil dripping on the ground. Could be something other than hoses. Even a drop or two of oil on exhaust would cause burnt smell and not be noticeable by checking the dip stick.

That's what I was thinking as well, but I haven't noticed anything dripping. I thought maybe the catch can pet **** wasn't tightened enough or perhaps some oil dripped out when I emptied it. I will double check again.

You didn't happen to run over one of those plastic bags did you? I did once and it took FOREVER to burn off. Smelled like something was burning when I stopped. Can't scrape it off either. That stuff gets pretty hard when it gets hot. Check your exhaust if you get it in the air and look to see if anything is on it.

Agree. Plastic bag on the exhaust system or oil or transmission fluid drips on the exhaust smell!
A good visual on the lift should provide the answer.

what braided hoses did you install?... check the routing of them and make sure nothing is touching your manifolds/headers or any part of the exhaust for that matter

Could be something as simple as a clearance issue for the hose.

Thanks for the feedback. All good points.

The hoses I installed were from CCA and are not wrapped but actual braided SS. I checked and none of them are touching or routed wrong as they follow the original OEM paths. If I retrace the timeline it seems as though the smell started after I emptied my catch can. I also noticed a small (older) puddle of oil underneath the car near the back of the passenger side front wheel.

I plan to get the car up on ramps this weekend and check to make sure the oil filter and plug are installed correctly. I don't see any debris or plastic bags, but noticed the smell was still there after a short ride yesterday.
