I will be re threading and cutting the oem shift down a bit and thought good time for new shifter.
I see hurst makes a 2.25 black ball. your thoughts ?
like to spend under 60 bucks

The Hurst Shifter ***** are good but they are big. The genuine ones seem to be cooler in the summer and not as cold in the winter as the cheap smaller copies. Maybe something to do with the plastic. They are high quality. The size is big because when you upgrade to a short throw shifter like the Hurst, the effort to move the lever goes up. The big ball helps when you are pushing hard - the little ***** dig into your palm.
I have a third suggestion - make your own. I got a genuine GM leather covered shifter ball just like the one in my mid80's Z28. It's slightly smaller than the Hurst, bigger than the cheaper stuff and covered in leather. It had to be modified to fit the Corvette shifter shaft but it's my favorite for the last several years. And you can't buy one.

I have several shifter ***** that I use on my MGW shifter. Change them out on a whim. I found that the "8"ball (actual) pool ball my fav. It looks clean and warm to the grip (a retro look statement) Have some aluminum billet ***** and find them cold. I also like the larger **** as I have large hands and are easier to grip. Check e bay for a large selection of pool ball shifters that will coordinate with your interior easily. Since you asked.

my hand size is med to Large when buying mechinix gloves.
I would like something that feels right. 2.25 sounds large.
I do like that idea of round since the oem is just dum of a shift ****
I dont care for temperature since its just a toy car

Been running the cut down shaft with Hurst C5 black 2.25" **** for a long time now. I threaded the shaft down to the insulator and chopped it off pretty much at the end of the OEM key slot. Works well. Better placement, shift throws a bit shorter.

last night i removed the shaft to do some re geasing etc but there is a posting here guys do it on the car they put a garbage bag around to keep burns out etc.
I threaded mine right now I am debating what to do tonight by how much to cut down. some postings say 3/4" but thats more so for guys who want to run oem shift **** still. I might just just 1" and call it a day

anyone make your own?
I was thinking it would be fun to make my own out of wood. I have a Shopsmith (which can be configured as a lathe) so I might try that.

My old one. It's is fusion of rod and ball. Thought I would like it, but it was not that great imo compared to the ball.
New Hurst ball

Hurst Ball
Ball is little big, but it is better since it makes me to use my whole palm to shift. It gives More sure shifting action with the aftermarket shifter kit I have.
Also it is glossy, so my hand doesn't slip. My other one was delrin material and my hand would slip time to time weather my palm is dry or sweaty.

You just have to try out!
