Hey, fellow California Corvette drivers....
I'm looking forward to getting my newly re-issued "throwback" California plates in a couple of months. I think the black plates on my black C-5 will be really cool. My 10 year-old son wants me to have the calipers painted yellow too, but that seems a bit much for me.
Anyone else ordering the black license plates?

Yeah, I wasn't aware either. It turns out that last summer the state issued a pre-order opportunity for the black with yellow (1960s), yellow with black (1950s), and blue with yellow (1970s). Only versions that received at least 7,500 orders would actually go to print. The black plate was the only one that made the cut. Apparently around 5X as many people wanted the black ones compared to the other two colors.
It only cost $50 for the plates, and the number/letter sequence will be totally unique...one letter and two digits, then a space, followed by two digits and one letter. I'm excited to get them.

I just my new personalize plates last week, the black plates look cool but doesn't go with my cars color. They definitely go fine with your car and your son might be into something with the yellow calipers speedmaster.

The bureaucrats in California don't make it easy. You have to send a check to Sacramento. Can't do it through your auto club or use credit card??? At least they give you a choice to pick up the plates from DMV office or Auto Club office.
The application is somewhat confusing if you want to keep the same license plate wording. There is a box to convert from existing plate but then no option to enter your current license plate. All I see is an option for a sequential plate or to enter a new license plate choice.
