98 Vette service vehicle soon
Hi everyone,
I have 94,284 miles on my vette. The Service vehicle soon lights keeps coming on. Oil has been recently changed so I know its not that. Is there a mileage time when the vette should be serviced at dealer or what??????

Service vehicle soon means something more serious is going on. Check engine light can be something as simple as a loose gas cap.
There have been plenty of posts here in the forum, including in the C5 buyers sticky at the top of the page, showing you how to pull the diagnostic codes from the DIC. Do that and then post the codes up here and someone will give you an idea of what might be going on.

To answer your question about servicing, There is a 100,000 mile check that should be done. It includes renewing the coolant fluid, transmission and differential oils, Coil packs wires and plugs and what ever else the dealer finds. It's pretty pricey, but I don' t feel comfortable doing the tranny and differential myself. So for me, taking it to the dealer was worth it. I wish I knew a local indy mech to do this kind of work. I know a lot of them think, "Yeah, I can fix anything on this car, it's just another car," and then find out the corvettes are different. I don't need to pay for their education, not just in money but also in time and hassle.
In this particular case, I think there's something else going on with your car. Pull the codes and see what it's complaining about.

My intermittent 'service vehicle soon' message is due to the SWPS throwing a C1281 code. It has done it since the car was new, the dealer could never find anything wrong. I've been ignoring it.

Jack - I think you have that backwards. Service Engine Soon can be cleared from the DIC by just resetting it (but not from history), while check engine remains on until the error is corrected, often an oxygen sensor, or similar item (and yes it can even be the gas cap). I think the service engine items are just notifications of service items past due, but I could be wrong. Zuti
