Default C5 exhaust question.

Hello all I finally just bought my first Vette.I picked up a 1998 6 speed black convertible. Its all stock for now but I want to slowly do some tasteful mods.My first upgrade I would like to do is exhaust. From what I have seen so far I like the looks of the Borla stinger system with its 2 single tips.Anyone have experience with this,if so hows the sounds and performance upgrade?Anyone ever do a dyno comparison of all the aftermarket systems?
Thanks for any help

First congrats... when you say Borla Stinger system... do you mean cat backs? I've seen more often lately that is a good idea to go to local car shows, cars and coffee, club meets, rallies... etc and find cars that you like the sound and then you can try and duplicate that system... although in many cases there may be many other things that make the tone, loudness and over all quality of sound besides just the cat back exhaust.
Have fun and welcome to the maddness

HP gains on exhaust only upgrades are going to be minimal...doubt there is much in the way of dyno comparisons from Corsa vs Borla for HP. They will make your car sound faster though.

I did find one Magnaflow dyno and they claimed a 20hp gain...

I'm not sure if it's feasible for you but I would recommend an LG headers/exhaust combo. I'm pretty sure you can actually see a substantial gain because I had mine done with a cam but it's a great system and sounds just plain awesome. There are a few LG motorsports guys here on the forums if you have any questions (Anthony is the one that's always helped me).

I have the Borla Sting cat back system and it sounds great. It's purrs really nice when cruising and gets pretty loud when you hit it And has a nice crackle too. Highly recommend unless you are looking for a super loud system then look elsewhere and add headers.
not sure about hp gains.

As already mentioned, performance gains will be minimal with just a catback change and as for the sound, best to find other owners that have installed various aftermarket systems and listen to them.

One last question, because the convertible is not listed in the compatibility list, does it require a different set up or is it the same as the coupes?

Here's mine with the dual tip stingers. All stock engine. I love the sound. Nice rumble at idle and not overly loud when you get on it.

all the C5 catback systems are interchangeable.
if you're looking for a real performance gain, a set of LT headers and X pipe are where you'll see improvement.
