Has anyone tried these bulbs yet? Are they bright white and light up the road?

There was an old thread where Toshiba HIR's were popular but hard to find. I'm considering modifying hi beam bulbs to fit low beam sockets.

You can get Phillips 9011/9012 HIR bulbs from Candlepower Inc. for about $50/pr. I have them, and am very satisfied. I believe they're the brightest bulbs you can get without going to HID. Adding the 4-Hi harness to light all four bulbs on hi-beam makes a big difference also.

I never have and never will understand why it's cool to blind the opposing direction drivers with obnoxiously bright headlights.
And don't try to tell me it's a safety thing.

I don't see anything wrong with trying to see where you're going as long as your NOT blinding oncoming traffic.

I installed Sylvania SilverStar Ultras in my Vette and motorcycle. They are better than a stock bulb but their live is shorter due to what Slyvania calls it being a high performance bulb.

I am not sure who you wrote this to but, I am NOT trying to blind the on coming driver. I want a bright light, YES, I also want a white light and NOT a yellow light. Once I find the light that I am pleased with, the next step will be to insure that it is angled correctly so that I do not blind the on coming driver. I DO NOT find it COOL to blind any driver as it DOES **** me off as well. Most of the time it is because the angle is NOT correct.

I just removed lights like those......they are not blinding at all....they just shine white vs yellow
However, I just installed the "blinding" lights and fabbed up fog lights off of Mark toque's website.
if you want to be able to see......buy hid lights , but be aware they can be a hastle with blowing ballasts and what not.
since I only drive mine a couple times a week it's no bother to me.
I can see everything now

Thanks for the reply. Mark Toque's website, what is that? Can you send me a link? I did a Google search for that site and came up with nothing.

First link says "HID" on the box. Clearly it is not, it is a halogen bulb. Plus it says it’s 100 Watts. Seems to be a little hot for stock headlight, wouldn’t want to melt them. The blue tint on the glass of the bulb will do nothing but have a bluish light and restrict light. If you want to see more I say do HID’s. Just my 2 cents.

This.. People running around with blue and purple lights are a s s h o l e s, those lights aren't doing you any good.

Specifically 5-6000 k color temp is not the same as the hipster colored lights.......back in the day I had super blue but have since realized Crystal white is best for visibility
Good luck op

Here's what I installed as an upgrade from OEM lights:

They are noticeably whiter and brighter than stock, but are by no means in the HID category. I do limited driving at night and so am very pleased with them. If I did a ton of driving at night I would look into a high quality HID set up.
