No GT Car is capable of winning the overall race against LMP or DP.

While not as fast as open-wheel Formula One cars, LMPs are the fastest closed-wheel racing cars used in circuit racing. Le Mans Prototypes are considered a class above production-based grand tourer cars, which compete alongside them in sports car racing.
Modern LMP designs include hybrid cars that use electric motors to assist acceleration.

Bring on the Ford GT for the 2016 season based on the $400,000 street car compared to the $85,000 Chevy street car.

Corvette wins, again!! The 8th time in 15 years. That's world bragging rights my friends. The C5-R had 3 wins, the C6.R had 4 wins, and now the C7.R gets it's first, in "the" premiere sports car race on the Earth. Watching the race from the live feed inside the Corvette, is addictive, lol!! Can't beat a Corvette...literally!! Proud to be an owner.

A vette-head friend told me that only one team car was running as the other crashed in practice? Regardless - seems that one bullet was enough to do the job...

The #63 sister car driven by Jan Magnussen hit a wall hard in qualifying due to a stuck throttle.

the Porsche which won, was in a different class, an open wheel class (LMP), and in an entirely different race. There are several 'class' of cars, racing Le Mans at the same time. This adds to the interest, and difficulty of winning there, in any class.

The Corvette won it's class. The porsche won it's class. The one has nothing to do with the other; except that they were running on the same track, at the same time.

The LMP, open wheel cars (like the Porsche here), are much like Indianapolis style open wheel cars. Very fast purpose built racers. Nothing like sports car class Corvettes, Ferrari, Viper, etc.

However, one year, a few years ago, the Corvette (can't remember if it was the C5R, or the C6R; did win it's class, and also won the unique distinction of finishing 'first overall' as well. That, was most unusual, and very very impressive, for Corvette to accomplish.

That the C7R was 17 overall finisher, means nothing! C7R won it's class. Defeated Ferrari and all the rest (in it's class). That's all that matters in Le Mans style racing.

watched them at spa and IIRC the laptimes the LMP1 cars are going would be midpack in the F1 grid. basically other than factory F1 teams (benz, ferrari), they'd be competitive.
