1999 model with 204K miles
Hey, I found a 99 coupe with 204K miles. The price reflects this and is very good. I can't tell if the ebcm has been replaced or repaired (and don't trust the seller to know or be totally truthful). With this many miles, is it safe to assume that any problems with the abs breaks have been addressed or wont come up? Any other issues with the '99?
Thanks

Mileage is not a viable indicator as to if an EBCM issue would come up. It came up as issues as far back as to when C5s were new (hence why so many were replaced under warranty) and for some has never appeared at all. The thing is though that this isn't something that you should be incredibly worried about and I feel a lot of people can really blow this out of proportion. At the worst, the only issue that you would have with EBCM issues is you may lose Active Handling (if equipped) and ABS (a bit of a crutch, especially if you know how to properly modulate brakes without locking them up). The car would still be completely competent and drive-able like any other C5 equipped similarly.
If the price is right for you at that mileage I would purchase the car.
Is the car an automatic or manual? Personally I would be more worried about if a column lock bypass has been installed and if this is something that you may have to purchase. If the seller is unable to tell you if either a lower column mounted CLB or an LMC5 has been installed then I would purchase one the second you purchase the car. The LMC5 is currently very popular and a good choice for end-all solutions to the column lock issues.

I agree with what Velocity_Vette said. I have a '98 and I ain't a sceerd. I'll deal with it if it ever comes up but it won't make me get rid of it just because of some "possible" issues with it. If the car feels right then by all means give it a go.

If the car was taken care of, I wouldn't be too worried about the mileage for the right price. I just had a custom cam put into my 2000 with 108000 on the clock. The shop gave me back the original cam and springs and they looked perfect.

Although the EBCM can be an issue, I'm thinking if it has gone that many miles without a problem, it's probably Ok. Check the DIC codes, drive it a bit and try to spin the tires at least once or twice (be careful though). The engines are pretty substantial, and anyone that has put that many miles on ones has likely kept up with the maintenance pretty well. New tires can be expensive so check the condition and age of the tires closely.

Evil Twin said that GM actually designed the LS1 to go twice as long as the industry average (200K vs. 100k). Since most of the industry standard cars and their engines seem to go about 200k-230k miles these days with rather dubious maintenance (starting with the late 90's to 00'), then it would seem reasonable to deduce, and thus postulate, that our LS1's will go 400k-460k miles fairly easy. Now before someone laughs...there IS a, what appears to be fairly stock 2000 C5 Corvette running that has over...600k miles.

If the price is right and the car checks out, go for it.

Well, my wife talked me out of the '99 but we found an '03 with only 80,747 that she felt more comfortable with. Drove it home today. Now I have to decide if I will keep the '79.

sounds like you picked up a much nicer car. in the long run, if you're into vettes, chances are you will enjoy the cleaner newer car more than the higher mileage great deal.
i actually considered the same when i was shopping. i could have picked up a 99 FRC with 182k for 6500 which wasn't a bad deal. car sold quick too. but, i held off and found a 2 owner 2002 z06 with 90k, records, all stock, old man owned and most the mileage was done on the guys freeway commute to work. car had perfect leakdown numbers an was overall very clean. best part, i picked it up for trade in at $15k

Excellent decision on passing up on the much higher mileage '99. You'll be worrying less with this one. Nice color choice, too.
