Default Engine Heating up

I haven't driven it for 3-4 months. Just drove it today, and the temp keep hopping from 220 - 240+. I needed smog, the smog also noticed and said check your coolant....(coolant level is fine)

I thought it's old coolant, which I flushed 6-7 years ago. So it's time to flush it again.

Question - I have 2 opened cans of coolant (the Orange kind). They have both been opened for 3-5 years (can't remember). Both have 1/2 - 3/4 new coolant in them. Can I still use these cans (mixed with Distilled water)

Thanks!

I would go get some fresh coolant, but it's probably still good.

6 or 7 year old coolant? Do a complete system flush and replace with
DexCool and distilled water. Check your hoses. Replace you pressure cap. Clean your radiator and the A/C in front of your radiator. Check your tstat. The above is cheap and easy. It was my last weekends fun.

Check the space between the radiator and the A/C condenser.
Mine regularly gets clogged with debris... grass clippings, leaves, even the odd plastic bag.
Use compressed air to blow it out.

This stuff is better than Dexcool and it's the same color. Dexcool is 20 year old technology.

Would GM approval make it better?

It meets ASTM D-3306 and ASTM D-4340 specifications

With the ac on 220 to 240 is too high. If not, from the factory the fans are programed at 235. Yes the coolant should changed every five years at least
