Door edge guards
My "new" 2003 has two small specks of missing paint on the driver's door edge, towards the bottom. Instead of trying to apply touchup paint, I've decided to install door edge guards. These will hide the imperfections and prevent more.

I've never seen a C5 with door edge guards either. I'd just use touch up paint to get it looking good again and then possibly getting some clear film like 3M or Xpel if you want a little protection on the door edges. I had Xpel installed on my DD and the shop put a little piece of film on each of the door edges to help protect them.

After all, what exactly are you hitting? How much do you care about your car? How much do you respect other peoples property/cars, regardless of what they are?

Actually I am not hitting anything with my Corvette's doors.
I just purchased the car. I am its second owner. I never owned a Corvette before.
I noticed a two very tiny chips on the driver's door edge, below knee-height. I was wondering if anybody used door edge guards, because I wanted to hide the chips rather than use touch-up paint. But since the general feeling is to use touch-up paint, I will buy a small bottle from a local Chevy dealer this week, and forget about the door edge guards.

Melting Slicks
I put them on the driver-side door of my Porsche because the garage setup at the time made it absolutely impossible to get out of it without opening the door until it touched my other car.
Eventually solved the problem by cutting back to one car, but I may be getting an additional car next year, and will probably need the same "fix" for the C5.

What about if it's my car I'm worried about?

That said I would hang something between the cars, over the other car, anything before I would knowingly open my door against anything. Just me.

The guards I used were clear vinyl, maybe 1/4"-3/8" wide on the visible side...against the silver I quit noticing them in about two days. If I can find a picture that shows them, I'll post it.
[EDIT: here it is, you'll have to look close to see it]
