19/20 Wheels, Tire Size, & Traction Control
Looking at maybe getting a set of 19 & 20 inch wheels and I'm wondering what tire sizes and brands others are running to keep from having trouble with traction control.
I understand that you want to keep a 1/2 to 1-1/2" difference in tire diameter front to rear.
I looked up the popular brands on Tire Rack.com and the sizes they recommended were 285-35R19 front and 285-30R20 rear, which may be fine except that the overall diameters were within a couple of 10th's of an inch of each other. The only way I got any difference was to go to a 275-35R19 front and I am still unsure that the difference is enough. In a couple of instances, the original recommendations had rear diameters that were smaller than the fronts.
Any help out there from someone who runs these wheel sizes?
Thanks,

I was hoping to stay with something like Bridgestone or Ventus or one of the companies that would be under $1000 for a set of four.
I would like to have as much width in the back as possible too.

I like my front and rear sidewall height to be the same, or the rear sidewalls to be taller than the fronts. Therefore, I ran a 265/30/19 front with my 305/25/20 rears. The sidewalls were virtually the same height, so it looked proportioned...

If you run the sizes you listed, your front tires will be .6" taller than the rears. Are you sure your fronts aren't 275/30?

Thanks, man. The 265/305 combo was Nitto Invos. When I bought the car, it was equipped with 275/305 Pirelli PZero Neros, and the front sidewalls were taller than the rears. Drove me nuts. I hate that look SO much. Trust me (as a former regional salesman for a Nitto/Pirelli/Falken/Sumitomo distributor), you need a 40mm to 50mm minimum width difference between the front and rear tires to maintain a matching sidewall height. That is why I ran the 265mm fronts. If I were to run a 275mm front tire, I would run a 325mm rear.

Sorry for horrid photo quality...but I'm running a 275/30 and 305/25 on HRE 543R's which I believe to be 19x10 and 20x11. But now that FYRARMS has pointed it out, my front sidewall being taller is beginning to irk me...but as soon as these T1R's are finished ($880 was my cost for all 4 btw) I'll be going to a 18x9.5 and 19x11 setup on 265/35 and 305/30 hopefully.

I am currently running 19/19 9" & 10" 255/35 & 285/35 I am moving up to a 20 rear and probably run a 285/30/20 the side wall is shorter in the rear, but only 3.75mm which may not be noticeable to most people, and some manufacturers actually list the 285/30 a little taller. Right now the rear tire on my car makes the rim look smaller.

When I had my '00, I ran a set of 19/20 Imola Design 22 wheels on the car. I used Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires (245/35ZR19 fronts, 285/30ZR20 rears) and they worked great.

I'm running 275/30/19 up front and 345/25/20 rear Nitto Invos on 360 Forged Concave Mesh8. Honestly if I could do it over, I would keep my old HRE 540R 18/19. Even with the same Nittos as well, the ride and handling was better in my opinion.
