Default Techron

It seems like between different forums this week Techron keeps coming up. My C5 with 35K miles has never had this product. Should I start using this product and if so how often. It's a weekend car only. Mostly driven bout 32 miles a weekend.

Yep. I would recommend at least once a year. Will help keep your fuel gage sending unit from screwing up and will also clean your injectors. Pretty cheap insurance and good maintenance.

I only run 93 or higher. I do toss a bottle a year in just because but not sure if it's really necessary. I figure it can't hurt though.

I use it in my 2001 as a preventative thing. I have replaced the sending units and had the TSB reflash as well. It will not hurt a thing and I would also stay with the top tier gasoline also. The first time I had a problem with my fuel level gauge (before the pump and sending unit changes) I was using gas from a local convenience store that buys gas on the open market. They told me they tend to buy the cheapest grades they can get.

I add a bottle at least once a year --a bottle of prevention

I put a bottle in a tank of gas 1-2 times a year. Never had any problems with the fuel sending units, but doesn't hurt to be proactive either.

I use Chevron w/techron for every fill-up possible. When I can't and have to buy gas from a discount station. I buy a bottle of techron to add to the tank.

Ok, great. There is a Chevron station nearby. I've been using Sunoco gasoline. I will switch this week. Just in case still put a bottle in though.

I use it twice a year. I had this problem with my wifes Pacifica. took to the Dealer and they wanted 900$ to fix the problem. I added the techron to it and on two fill ups, and the problem went away, its been 4 years and no problems since.

Probably overkill, but I put a bottle in every other fill-up along with high quality gas (no Cheveron in my area). When I bought the 04 in 2014 with 31K, I did not know what type of gas the previous 2 owners put in the tank.

Been a fan for years....1/2 a can in the tank and the other 1/2 in the vacuum hose of the power brake. Works for me.

Texaco also advertises Techron as being included in their gas. I have used only Chevron or Texaco in my '02 and have never seen any issues with the gas gauge or with any driveablilty issues. Once I pretty much stop driving the car during the winter months, I will fill the tank and add one bottle of Techron.

That's how I am January through March. The car stays under cover. Just came back from Autozone and picked up a bottle. I'll do it your way also this winter.

I had the gas gauge problem in my 98. Two tanks of gas with two bottles of Techron fixed it. Now I put a bottle in about every 6 months.

Been using Techron in my '99 FRC since I got it in '99 (garage queen w/34,000) & have never had any issues w/gauge problems. Use a 24oz bottle several times a yr (usually w/1/2 tank). Watch for sales for Techron & load up. p.s. I try to use Shell 92-93 octane when possible. I look at using Techron as insurance.

My 98 had the gauge problem. It would go to empty at times and quit working below 1/2 full. I used the techron and it improved greatly. Now i use costco high test that they use there own additives and have not had a problem for sometime. After the costco was built they dug up the station and add separate tanks just for the additives that they add to the fuel. So it does not matter who the distributer is you still get the same additives.

Doesn't matter about the octane, Sulfur is still present in the fuel and that's what causes oxidation and problems with the fuel sending units !

Agree on the octane comment although I think with the 94 octane available at Chevron in Canada it doesn't have any ethanol if that's a concern to anyone. I suggest using the Techron concentrate once in a while and always using Chevron gas to get the constant Techron additive in the gas. And no I don't work for Chevron but I have experienced the crash to zero gauge problem and Techron seems to have fixed it.

I only put 2000 miles/year but I add Techron twice a year since my gas gauge acted up. Never had a problem again
