Default how do you trouble shoot door lock relays?

Hi guys,
I posted once before that I was having an issue with the door locks on my new to me '01. Each door has different issues, but I don't know how to figure out what's wrong. Is there is trouble shooting guide somewhere?

Can't trouble shoot if I don't know what the issue is with each door.

If each door can at least lock or unlock then we know the motor is good. There is a separate lock and unlock relay in each module.

We also can't overlook that it may be the door switch.

Need you to:

Try using a FOB to unlock and lock the doors and let us know what happens to each door.

Also, I want you to try operating the passenger door to lock and unlock using that door switch.

And, pull your dash DIC codes so I can see if any serial bus issue shows up.

Mr. Sam

Ok, using the fob, drivers door makes clicking sound, and passenger door locks fine but may take 2-3 button pushes to unlock.

manually, drivers door clicks, and passenger door works fine.

Two codes came up: IPC B0516 H and HVAC B0361 H. It only had the HVAC code when I bought it, low Freon maybe? But the IPC code is "new" history code. Seems to me that if the relay is clicking the motor itself is dead?

Thanks for the help.

OK, it does sound like the driver side motor may be bad. I doubt both relays are bad.

Try one more thing. What happens when you try to lock and unlock the passenger door from the driver side switch.

Let's start with the driver door first.

I would remove the door panel and disconnect the motor and jumper 12 volts to it to see if it will work.

Fob or door switch, the passenger door behaves in the same 2-3 pushes to unlock. It's not that big a deal. Just wished the drivers door worked.

Where is the best, least expensive, place to buy a new motor assy?

Read through the first post in the following thread and give it a try. After you try it clear the HVAC code and then see it if comes back:

If the code does come back then check the freon level and worst case the plastic gear in the actuator has cracked and needs to be replaced. The cracked gear causes the same symptoms as the actuator needing to be reset.

Hope it is as simple as the reset.

You are in good hands with Mr Sam on the door control module.....
I'm wondering what the actuator does. I did notice yesterday that the AC starts to freeze the windshield. Related?

Gene at Cultrag.com is a great source for new parts.

For the passenger side if the passenger switch works the lock without problems then the door module relays are good. The passenger door module receives a serial bus input to lock/unlock when using the FOB or driver door switch. Since you have no codes indicating a serial bus issue it would seem to be something in the module that is causing the unlock issue.

I was about to pull the trigger on a new lock assy, and I see they also sell the actuator. I assume the actuator is part of the lock assy. Can I just replace the actuator? I have not pulled the door panel off yet as I don't want to have the car down waiting for parts. What's the best bet, the whole lock assy or just the actuator?

Wife and I went for a long day ride today and the passenger door lock took eight times on the drivers door button to unlock the darn door! We did buy an extended warranty with the car, if you can believe it, and we need to see if door locks are covered. Otherwise, do the control modules do anything if you are using the lock/unlock rocker switch on the drivers door? I'm still trying to determine if it's the modules and their relays or is it the motor/actuators giving me issues. I'm overthinking this whole deal and driving me .

Might be the door switch.

When operating the passenger door from the driver side the driver module sends a serial bus signal to the BCM which in turn sends a serial bus signal to the passenger door module requesting it to operate the lock.

Default It's fixed!

It's fixed! Can you believe that the dealer gave me an aftermarket warranty on a 14 year old car? Well, I put it to good use. The bill would have been $1,200 to fix the locks. It needed both door solenoids plus the drivers door module.

OK, glad it is fixed. However there are no solenoids in the doors.

Mr. Sam

Mr. Sam

I received the bill in the mail today. They replaced two lock's, p/n's 10346748 and 10346749, and a module 10342159. With labor it was $1623.48.

Labor should have been no more than 3 hours including breaks.

Looks like it was flat rated to the insurance company at $419.00. Four hours maybe? I'm just glad it was covered and only cost me $100.00. Now I have to get used to the doors locking automatically as you drive away.

If you don't want them to lock, you can change the setting from the dic.
