Default Options for tuning the A4

I have a stock 98 auto conv.

All I want to do is modify the shift to be a little more aggressive in the transmission.

From looking at tuners there appears to be only two that will would on the 98 what other choices do I have? And it seems a waste @ over $400 to change one thing

I know I ask about shift kits in the transmission but the majority said it would be better to do a program change in the computer versus hardware.

If you own HP tuners, there are tunes to download from their website that will change the shift parameters from the factory economy and emissions setup to performance. The part throttle kick down change will allow less throttle to be applied before a lower gear is selected resulting in less lagging. The upshifts are also changed so that the car will stay in the lower gears longer the more the accelerator is pressed.

Yes, the computer will try to hit its programmed shift times and decrease line pressure if you do a shift kit. As noted HPTuners will do it. Maybe you can find someone with HPTuners in your area that will do it for you for the price a VIN license ($100).

Had mine tuned recently after a long tubes etc. installed. My guy asked me how aggressive I wanted the shift points on my A4, I told him somewhere in the middle of stock and Extreme. It made a huge difference. However, I would wait to pay for a tune until you added additional mods. I will say it does change feel of the transmission, and well worth it. Hopefully you can find someone to do it for less.
