Default Headliner woes

My headliner finally gave out. It was hanging down and looked like crap. $180-$250 was the estimate I rec'd from an upholstery shop for new headliner install.

I figured I couldn't mess up too bad if I did it myself. So I removed the foam insert from the targa top. Removed old dried out fabric from insert and cleaned it up. Removed old glue from targa top.

Purchased 3M 90 spray adhesive for 12 bucks from Lowes. Six bucks worth of headliner material from Michael's. I followed instructions on the can on how to apply adhesive.

$18 and a couple of hours of my time and I have a great looking new headliner. Not bad.

Default Good job

I replaced a couple headliners in my Corvettes and I was amazed at the outcome for such a modest amount of my time and dollars. Glad all worked out for you.

Feels good to do a DIY project and at such a low cost.

Did you pull the foam off the targa? I'm going to do mine but have been putting it off because I'm afraid I will screw up the foam when removing the old headliner. I was going to use black faux leather vinyl that matches the upholstery. Any suggestions or pointers? P.S. The model 23 is what I carry, an excellent pistol. Rod

Yes the foam has to be pulled off the targa so you can remove the old fabric from it and replace it with new. Take your time and it should peel off. There will be the old residue from the liner that will have to be scraped off the foam liner. I used a stiff nylon brush.
You may have an issue with the black vinyl due to its thickness. Check it out first before you glue anything down. You might have to trim down some of the outer edge of the foam to gain clearance for the vinyl. Let me know how it goes. Love the 23.

Don't know what "sides" mean. See post #6. That may help.

I'll wait for the weather to get a little warmer b4 I try it. Thanks for the reply, I feel better knowing some one here has been able to do it at home. Rod

Good job! I had tried several times to re-glue but it could be the Florida summer heat just would not allow it to stay. Finally had it done at a shop but it was only $75 if I recall including all new material and foam. That was 4 years ago or so and it still is doing fine. However, if you can successfully do it your self that is the way to go.

The best price I got was $175 and they said they had never done one. I will try what Glock23 did when the weather turns warmer. Rod
