Rear Hatch removal/replacement
I have a '97, that was keyed pretty deep along the back of the rear hatch from the corvette logo all the way to the drivers rear fender. The rear glass also has heavy water spots which cannot be removed from the glass, so I was also looking to replace the rear glass.
Amazingly, I was able to find a complete rear hatch assembly in excellent condition which matches my color for around $300. A lot cheaper than new glass and body work.
The red outline is what I am looking to replace, and the black circle is that area of the key marks.
I've read the thread on removing the rear hatch https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...h-removal.html and I have the service manual.
Do you see anything wrong with replacing the entire hatch assembly from a '99?
Thanks,
Eddie

Don't see anything wrong with replacing the rear hatch as long as you can get the adjustments right, the weatherstripping is in good shape, etc.

Should not be a problem and will save you a fortune!
I had my rear deck replaced under warranty (due to the bonding strip starting to blister the paint) and they had to remove and reinstall the window after removing, painting, replacing the hatch - major expense to GM - and the car had to sit for 3 days in the shop to let the window sealant set up after it was completed

When I arranged to have mine done for the same reason - part arrived, body shop painted it, then I was told "Oh, by the way, this part is really difficult to change - if the back glass breaks, you will have to buy a new one."
"Wait, This is warranty work, you are an authorized Chevy dealers, and you are telling me if you the dealer breaks a part, then I the customer, have to pay for it???"
"Yes"
I still have a blistered rear deck.

All because of a low life vandal , I had a 442 that won best paint 3 years in a row, at the Auto Rama and some kid keyed the whole side because my sister broke up with him !!!!! I will never get the reasoning behind wrecking someones property ?????

I'm sure this will be no easy task to replace, and really not looking forward to it. I purchased this car about a year ago and have been working on getting everything back in good working order.
Unfortunately the seller listed the rear hatch incorrectly, it was actually for a C6 and not a C5. Probably should have requested an image before driving 4+ hours to go and take a look, but at least I got to try out the Vararam that I installed the day before. I'll post pictures and my experience if I ever find a matching hatch to replace my existing one.
The '97 C5 corvette was brand new when I first got my license, and I was fortunate to be able to be a passenger in a 6-speed, silver C5. 18 years later I found a 6-speed, silver C5 for sale and always wanted a project car, so I snapped it up. Not even two hours after I bought it, someone keyed the rear deck. I was seriously heart broken. I will never understand why anyone would key a car.

And, form every
You can count on Marc selling you exactly what he represents. So I would say if you are satisfied with the condition he represents, you cannot go wrong. He is known to all of us.
