Finally did it... Front Plate Install & Mod
I purchased my C5Z nearly 6 years ago while living in Arizona (no front plate required), but moved back home to St. Louis about 3 years ago (Missouri requiring a front plate). Probably not wise... but I couldn't bring myself to mount the front plate due to the aesthetic of it. Well after 3 years I finally got tired of always being on the look out for the "Fuzz".
Purchased the clear front plate cover from an online vender for $25, and a can of spray taillight tint for ~$15.... Here are the results.

Looks good. Let us know if da fuzz ever ticket you for this... looks much better, but is likely illegal there as it is in most places where you have to display 2 plates. I might even do it one day, but maybe a bit lighter.
How's the fit? If good, who did you get it from?

We have the same issue here in Kali and I just run with no front plate here and expect to eventually get tagged for it by the Irvine gendarmes. In fact, it happened to me in my mini Cooper about 5 years ago so I installed a Show-N-Go motorized mount on that. Nothing on my C7, though.
I still think you're at risk with the heavy-tint cover. My wife didn't want to take the chance with her C5 when she still drove it so I did a more acceptable config.
The clear cover pictured above deteriorated and crumbled to pieces within a year. Crap quality. No matter - I sold that C5 shortly after with the stock cover.

C5 Contoured Clear Acrylic Cover
Not only do I believe any cover at all is technically illegal, tinted ones are for sure. As I was successful in getting away with no front plate for 3 years, and I see tinted covers all the time, I am not overly concerned about it. Also... it's not nearly as dark in person as it appears in the last photo.
I did 1 thorough coat with the spray tint, let it cure and then fit it. I am very, very glad I did not do a second coat even though that was my original plan.
I'll update this post if I have any issues with the 5-0 or with the quality of the cover itself over time.

Your tinted cover in my state would be just as illegal as my not running a front plate at all. I will continue to roll the dice I suppose.........

So $25 US... guessing that will work out to $60 CAD including exchange rate, freight, import duties and taxes. Oh well...

Good luck with that as it is illegal in Missouri. But, you may never be stopped for it.

Personally I think it will attract more attention from the Po Po than the color matched cover does. If they see no plate, they may assume for a moment that the car is from out of state and doesn't require a front plate. If they see a plate with dark tint, "bingo", now they have a sure fire reason to pull you over.

I've had this exact clear cover for a couple years now and it still looks new. I do take some Polish to it from time to time. I also put some 3M chip guard on it to keep it from getting chips or cracks. Overall it's a great piece I think.
I left mine clear for now as I'm not sure the local poh poh will like the deep tint.

Yeah Missouri sucks they have some pretty stupid rules. I have been running mine with no front plate and never had any problems. Don't plan on ever putting it on. Vettes look terrible with the front plate on.

I don't expect many states permit anything to cover license plates. Most probably technically ban those license plate frames, like dealers put on cars.

Freshman can you tell me if that is a black surround piece in the 4th photo. I didn't think the clear cover would fit over it. I like how the whole thing looks.
