Default Four post lift owners. Bolt to floor or not?

I've got my eyes on a four post and I've looked at many pics. It appears in most cases the units are not bolted to the floor. I live in the Chicago area and quakes aren't a concern for me. (If we get the big one I'll be worried about more important things)

Just curious to see what most of you are doing.

Thanks.

SoCal here so, yes, bolted down.

And, btw, I had earthquakes when I lived in both Georgia and Indiana and had a hurricane make it up to Indiana when living there so almost anything is possible. I bought the lift in Indiana and had it bolted down there. Besides stability during a natural occurance, such as an earthquake, it lends a lot of stability to the lift when working on it.

Thanks Patches. What model did you get? Would you still buy the same one now that you've had it for a while?

I've got an HD-9 4 post. Not bolted to the concrete though they give you the bolts in the parts box. Pretty stable for what I do, just your basic muffler swap and similar. I have the casters also and have moved it around the garage when I needed to. What really helps out is a rolling bridge jack. Pricey and damn its heavy but gets the front or rear up to do brakes and other maintenance.

not bolted. I sometimes move it a little...so I like it not being bolted down.

I have a Direct=Lift and its been awesome. When we built our new home, I had the garage floor poured without a sloop. That’s your only concern with a four-post lift if at all. Mine is not bolted down.

Chicago area here too, and mine isn't bolted down. I've got a Quality Lifts Q4P07... smaller than most, but perfect for my townhouse!

Since you're local, you are welcome to come by and check it out in person if you'd like (I know I would've appreciated that opportunity when I was looking to buy one).

No problem, just PM me whenever!

Also, how is your car not out yet?! We've been having some real nice weather recently, and it's rained enough to get the salt off the roads!!

Not bolting down a 4 post lift is very unsafe. Maybe if there were some diagonal bracing added, it would help.

not a hope I'd install without bolting it down unless the unit purchased specifically states that is OK.

I'm certainly not the expert, which is why I posted the question, but if a company offers casters to move a four post I would "assume" not bolting is OK.

Time to make some phone calls.
