Shift **** help
I am trying to remove the mod shift **** (see pics) from my stock C5 sifter so I can replace with the original. There is no outside access port such as an allen wrench bolt holding it on. I have tried everything but it does not budge. Note there is a Corvette logo on the top of the ****. The top appears to be a cap but numerous attempt to pop it off have not worked.
So, just wondering, is there anyone out there in the CF5 world that has a **** like this? If so, how is it removed? Thanks

Maybe a wife or daughter with stronger hands than you can give it a shot?
How certain are you that its a stock shifter? I've also seen some people epoxy the ***** on for no apparent reason....

Removed the boot and looked at the shifter. It is stock. I had a neighbor that can bench press a zillion pounds and my go to mechanic try and they could not twist either way. My fear it is on with epoxy

Ah, there's your problem. Find a 35 year old virgin and I promise you he can get it off. (The ****, that is)

I have never seen that shift **** before but did you try to remove the cap? Maybe it installs like the OEM **** and there is a demon key underneath.

Will try the hair dryer method. Did not think of that. Will post results.

Can you get a GOOD view of the bottom of the ****? You might find some telltale key to how it's held on. If you have no love for the ****, that top cap would either pry off or be drilled thru.

Update on removing the shift ****. I put a high heat hair dryer on the shift **** for about 30 minutes. I was hot, very hot. Still no budge in the ****. So, either forget taking it off or cut it off Need some time to decide.

That is what I thought. I tried every sharp item in the kitchen and my tool boxes to pop the top cap off and nothing happens. Then I took a magnifying glass and looked at the bottom edge of the cap and it appears not to be a separate piece from the black neck. I also thought the black hard rubber neck was the answer. I used vise grips on it and the shaft and it did not budge. I believe the idiot who put this *** on used an adhesive on the threads that unfortunately did its job too good!
So I am at the point to decide whether to leave it, cut it off, or as 'Shifter suggest, get a new shifter.
Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

If you have one of those oscillating tools that are popular now, with a metal blade, cut thru the thing VERTICALLY so you can pry it off without damaging the shaft. Otherwise, use a hacksaw, be careful and don't slip. Also a Sabre saw with a metal cutting blade would work, just more vibration and dust.

I removed the boot from the consul and found remnants of glue on the underside of the boot. So, yes, this **** is most likely screwed on and then the idiot that put it on used glue on the threads. I tried heat from a hair dryer but did not get the **** hot enough. I bought a heat gun and will try that. Stay tuned.
