I am mostly a "do it yourself" guy.
My pet peeve is that you have to drop the ENTIRE suspension and motor to do a simple clutch change !!!
I have had several other cars including a 2000 SS Camaro and clutch changes were simple, easy and only a few hours work over a weekend. NOW this darn thing has to go to the dealer or a speed shop for something as simple as a clutch job !!!

Crappy Shifting...
Upgrade to a C6 Z06 shifter, Anti-venom mod, Ranger Method (till it gets and stays clear) then do Lucas Synthetic Clutch Fluid, Vent Bell housing covers, Amsoil Torque Drive Fluid in Tranny ... all these things added together will VASTLY improve your C5 shifting.
Wheel Noise...
Insulate the rear inner fender wheel well and the body of the wheel well...HUGE improvement, best money I've spent on insulating...
My pet peeve about the C5 ,is not having enough time to drive it more

Do you recommend doing the insides of the wheel wells, too? What material do you recommend using in there? Will it stand up to the gravel/grit/rain/elements of a "driven" C5?

Don't get me wrong, I simply love my '99 C5, probably the best all around and practical performance car I've ever owned, and that includes my 911 Porsche I sold just a while ago. The only two items I've really bitched about is: #1 Stock shifter, just awful! #2 The lack of availability of parts and when you do find them the cost is very high. You would think that C5's, a pretty popular car still today, would have some of the in demand tech/electronic pieces available at a reasonable price. Oh well, its still the best! Best wishes to all!

I agree as well. I wonder how much of that is the "car". I had tire noise but also had 2004 Khumo's. I have new Conti EC's and tire noise is gone. I can hear music, conversation etc. just fine. Now my issues is the dreaded Borla drone (it's an older set up) but at cruise = very quiet. No pigtail here either.

Thanks for your input. I did the wheel tubs from inside the hatch area on my FRC (under the carpet) but it did not help much.

I went to Lowes and got the http://www.lowes.com/pd_28929-1410-F...ductId=1081449
I put it on the BACK side of the inner fender and on the car shell itself to "double" the insulation... after you put the inner fender back in place you can't see it or wouldn't even know it's there except your car will be WAY quieter than without it

I think most of this comes from ones perspective and experience with other vehicles. Interior for instance, while I realize that the materials used were not top shelf, don't judge too harshly until you have experienced the 94-96 Impala SS cars that GM put out. Makes the C5 interior seem like a Lexus by comparison. I love my 95 SS but I just paid $350.00 for a drivers door panel and I had to do a small repair to it before I installed it. Most of the plastic parts have hardened and cracked over time. I bought it new and has been garaged its whole life but cheap is cheap. Given all that there is still a strong following of the car. That said, I have a FRC so no pigtail. 👍

No word of a lie, but the only thing that actually annoys me when driving my Vette is that there is too much traffic and too many cops to really open it up on a nice spring or summer day, and track days are expensive. That and the stock headlights are terrible, but that has been fixed with HIDs.

My seats can get a little uncomfortable after 2 or 3 hours. I only have 34K on the car so the interior is still in good shape. Road noise is a bit bothersome but I know a change of tires and some tactical insulation will help. The gas petal looks like a toy. The thing that all Corvette owners use the most is just this little plastic nubby stick? I put an Elite Engineering one on as soon as I could. The sound system is not good but I don't listen to music that much while driving it. My B pillar weather stripping needs changing and GM wants @350 for that! Stupid price. I know EBay has a few for about $122 but I don't know the quality of those. I do have warped rotors up front but I got replacement rotors that I just haven't got to yet. All in all, I love my Vette. These complaints are just little s****les that I can live with. (cept the brakes, need to fix that!). With that said, I really like being able to work on the car myself. Lots of aftermarket. As much as your wallet can take. I can't even find the engine on my 2015 Buick Regal. I enjoy driving it. The looks I get, talking to other vette owners and gearheads. Besides marrying the wifey that tolerates my hobbies, the Vette was the best move I made in years.

The only thing that bothers me is the steering wheel. I have a Momo steering wheel in my Porsche 911 track car that I would really like in the Z06, but it doesn't have an airbag. The seats did bother me but I replaced them with Corbeau A4's.

What I've found is that when you put the screws in the dash, final assembly, Be SURE to PUSH THE DASH AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD and the Metal Frames that it mounts to 'while tightening the screws'.
Be absolutely SURE the metal superstructure (frames) are in the correct positions ( I marked them with a sharpie before I took them apart the very first time).
Everything MUST be in total ALIGNMENT when you put it all back together, or you create STRESS which causes the squeaks.

Interior is cheesy and when I have the windows open with the conv top up, the black cloth under the rear window blows all over the place like a flapping sail

You actually REMOVE the inner fender... it's just a plastic shell...

Frost King duct insulation uses OPEN cell foam........it will absorb and hold water.
