Had a wonderful surprise leaving work yesterday

Coworker was waiting to leave the parking lot onto the street, when a kid on a bike comes whizzing down the sidewalk. Coworker decides to back up to let the kid pass in front of him. Coworker doesn't see my low car and crunches up and over my front bumper.
I hope the bumper can be saved, if not, oh well. This is why we have insurance. If I can buy a used cover I'll toss that on and use the rest of the dough for new tires
I think it's time to get those cutouts finished up so people know where I am, even if they can't see me!

I worry about this happening all the time. It's not the fix that's the issue, it the ding on the carfax that's going to cost you money when selling. Good luck with your fix.

I am hoping I can get some sort of "Diminished Value" claim going with his insurance. I am getting the car looked at today for repair estimate.

Ugh. Glad to hear that you're taking it well, but what a blow. People just have zero common sense nowadays. Hope the repair goes well, and I second the Tiger shark bumper, if it's in the budget.

It amazes me how often these cars get hit. One reason I try to park in the safest spot and always give everyone plenty of room in tight areas. I always figure the other guy is out to get me.

no Tigershark, this ain't a 355/360 Ferrari!!!
Does anyone have any experience with a Diminished Value claim in NYS? Especially for a "high end" car like a Vette?

So sorry to see this. Similar thing happened to me in a parking lot. Parked my CE way away from anyone then someone scraped it wanting to get a closer look. Good luck with the fix.

Not for a vette but have tried to claim Diminished Value for other claims. Don't want to discourage you but it is a process and it will depend on the ins. company and adjuster. Good Luck.

Cut a deal with the other driver...have him pay you cash out of pocket for the loss and have your car re-sprayed.
(1) You allow the other driver to avoid having to show an at-fault claim on his own insurance record (which is your real negotiating leverage in this matter).
(2) You avoid the hassle of a "diminution in value" fight with the other driver's carrier (realistically, the diminished value on a 12+ year old car will likely be nominal).
(3) You avoid having a collision incident (triggered by the diminished value claim) black eye show up on your car's Carfax history report.
Its proof that our country is going to the dogs when our knee-jerk reaction to every event is to "call my lawyer." Jeez...we've already got more than enough dogs (aka lawyers) serving in Congress.

My daughter had a brand new Acura and it was totaled in a hail storm---she was told tough luck the insurance company. Now she has added a rider that covers the difference for the lose in resale value.
