Default Cross Drilled Rotors??

I see a lot of members who have put on aftermarket cross drilled rotors and than painted their calipers red.....is there a certain Forum Vendor that you are all purchasing these from...with new pads as well?

Thanks!

Michael

Brakemotive seems to be popular around here.

...OP, A large number of folks have had good experience using Brakemotive or R-1 rotors as well as myself. The issue of having drilled/slotted rotors is a personal choice in appearance. The next set that I purchase will be just slotted without the drilled holes, as I have had on a prior less expensive set that showed heat cracks around the drilled holes. With that said, if you don't track your car they would be fine for street use, but I would select a set with just slots. As far as the red caliber issue, many have painted their own with a high quality epoxy spray paint or brushed on application. It's not necessary to buy a full set of red calibers unless you are upgrading to six piston design after market units. You will get numerous opinions on this subject, but it really boils down to what type of driving you are demanding of your car. Good luck.......

Lots of people on this forum go with Brake motive. I have yet to hear a single bad word about them. I have no experience with them.

I do however have a lot of experience with Baer 14 " Eradispeed + 2 two piece rotors.

I have had these on my car for 15 years, I've put 90,000 miles on them ( No track ) but a lot of spirited and a few defensive driving exhibitions.. Deer in the road at night etc. Tractor trailers changing lanes not seeing me, etc.

These rotors are expensive compared to Brake motive, but they have served me very well. I would buy another set in a heart beat, if I could ever wear these out. They actually look better now then when they were new, because my soft brake pads polish the rotors, have a very high coefficient of friction, no heat distortion or dark discoloration making... them stop better than most brake pads on the market. Do they dust? Yes, thank God... that's because they are soft, grab like a vice and with out the heat fade found in harder non dusting pads. Ill take " safe brake pads " any day over non dusting hard pads. If I can get an extra 20 feet of stopping power, I'm all for that. My wheels may have seen some dust, but 3 minutes with a microfiber towel and I'm looking good again. No one has ever witnessed brake dust on my wheels.

15 years old, 90,000 miles on these rotors... Car is 17 years old with a little over 100,000 miles

That's why I run Baer, slotted only, two-piece Eradispeed plus 2 rotors.

Now I'd like to say, another good company that's comparable to brake motive is powerstop.

Z26 power stop is their extreme set.

I ran Baer Eradispeed one piece slotted/drilled rotors on my '00 and they held up very well. They are more expensive than others out there. There are however some good and less expensive alternatives out there that forum vendors sell.

As for painting the calipers, you do not need to do red necessarily but I would say that is the most popular color. A number of members use caliper painting kits while others have their calipers powdercoated. Just depends on your preferences.

Now I don't feel fully confident in brake motive yet for autoxing and most importantly drilled rotors.

Check post # 13 out.

People love these marketing holes in their rotors. No one wants better brakes, just red calipers and holes?

Stop-Tech Sport slotted and cryo'd for me, C6-Z caliper swap, S/S hoses and Hawk 1-piece pads. With the cryo treatment, the rotors show only slight wear after 8k of fairly hard braking....(not track though).

Ive been driving for 55 years, and put 100,000 miles on my C5 over the last 17 years, and get this, my car never failed to stop.

My C5 has had drilled and slotted rotors for 15 years. Never an issue. My Twin turbo Dodge stealth had them also, never an issue. The twin turbo was a heavy car too.( all wheel drive )

...OP,....I will throw this out there as a final reply, anyone that tracks their car with 'some' frequency knows what stress's and temperatures brakes are exposed too. And any style street driving one imposes on their cars brakes 'can not' be compared to racing on a track, period !! If you have no plans to track your car, then buy what looks pretty, but, if you are a spirited or aggressive racer then go buy the "Good" stuff. The best 'Mod' one can do to their car is having 'great' brakes on a car that can see 170 mph, in stock configuration !!...

It's on 03 Convertible....so not going to see the track...some spirited driving but maximum braking potential is not the priority...of course I want good durability....I might just go the slotted route like my Charger Scat Pack.

All the best,

Michael

Well, you obviously never drove it too hard...glad it worked for you. Do a few hard HPDE's and your drilled rotors will be cracked piles of scrap.

Because it worked for you doesn't mean it's endorsed as capable.

Its endorsed by me as capable for what I've said I do with it.. I already said I don't track the car... you have to be able to read what I said, before you could comment on my experience. I don't have to track the car to have fun with it.. This car is more fun than any of the 27 other cars I've owned in my 71 years of life. I don't have a high speed spoiler either...The reason is because I don't need them. " I DON"T TRACK THE CAR "

To bring up my comments and then say I have to do some High speed track events is simply childish...90 % of Corvette owners NEVER see a track. When I was a young kid, I saw plenty of track time..

I purchased a set of brakes from BrakeMotive several years ago for my daily driver. They were sold as a set...four rotors and pads. Perfect fit, they stop excellently, and no cracks. They were the best bang for the buck I could find. You really don't want to save too much money on your brakes...they are too important a system.
