Default Normal for new shocks to leak?

I just purchased some c6 z06 shocks where the seller has said they have about 200 miles in them. Question is, is it normal for a new shocks to have some leakage? Mind you all I did was modulate them 3-4 times while tying them down to install. Seems like these are shot to me.

Ok one more no and I'm going to request a refund from the seller here on the forum. I'm not paying 200$ when both rears are leaking.

3 out of my 4 brand new C6 Z06 shocks had a little bit of seepage similar to your picture above. I don't know if it is normal on these particular shocks, but since I have seen this in the past on other new shocks, I wasn't too worried about it. I guess only time will tell.

Hmmmm I'm assuming own shocks arnt the best quality (hecho en Mexico) but I wasn't sure if immediate leakage would mean they were shot

Hard to argue with empirical evidence... trumps logic in this case
SO... now you have a tuff choice to make

I purchased 4 for my 04 a year ago or so and one showed a little oil similar to your pic. I called the vender and he stated it was normal residue from the manufacturing process. I cleaned the oil off of the shock and used it. I haven't seen any oil since, so I think is normal.

When (if) you get your money back spend an extra $94 and buy some brand new ones from Gene Culley. I bought new shocks two years ago and they didn't have any residue like that.

IMO, no way should shocks with only 200 miles on them leak like that. Good luck working with the seller on this.

Why would you pay that much for used shocks? Why would you buy used shocks? Call me dumb, but it wouldn't enter my mind to put used shocks on my vette.

I have a set of 2003 Z06 shocks with around 8500 miles on them- Dry as a bone, and quite firm. Get your money back. Those were probably stored for a long time, and not vertically.

ive forwarded this thread to the seller. Ill see what he wants to do. These still feel extremely stiff in terms of gas pressure. It was raining today so i can tell if the shocks are leaking on car a lot or not. Might just get the price knocked down a bit.

EDIT: Wasn't able to actually PM the seller getting an HTTP 500 error. I'll try again later

I'm the one he bought them from. I bought them new from Cultrag on 4/7/16, and they should have a 12 month warranty.

It looks like all of your PM's showed up in my box (4 of them). I PM'ed you back.

New shocks are cheap enough no point risking used on a wear item.

I've decided to keep them with no issue on the price i paid. After having been on the car for over a week of hard driving/bumpy roads there is absolutely no sign of leakage.

Car feels much more confident around bumpy turns so im happy with the purchase.

I purchased 4 new Z06 shocks directly from Gene and 1 shows a little leaked, I will not try to make a big deal and start thinking about it, I will use it the way they are and if the suspension quality presents issues I replace it. I inquirer about the Belstein shocks and they also leaked brand new out of the box, Belstein customer service replied that was normal in new shocks sometimes so, No big deal.
