Default Removing body moldings on 04

Looking to remove the side moldings as I hate the look . A little worried because the cause is 12 years old and the paint might be noticeably different under. What are you opinions?

Pic for reference

I've done it plenty of times on other cars just not a car this old. I could always cut and polish car after if I had an issue I suppose

Sounds like you are capable of dealing with whatever you find. Go for it, you can always put them back on.

Anyones guess as to what your result will be.
I agree my car is light pewter it was 13 years old when Itook my bsm off it is a garage kept car with 23000 miles on it no problems but I started with the small front pieces first and inspected the car to make sure there was no fading.

Having the paint be a slightly different color is always a chance you take. If it is different and you can't get it to blend in. You can just reinstall the BSMs back on the car.

Just pull it off you'll be fine...........I just removed mine from a 14 year old car black also with no issues. You will be so happy with the outcome. To put back on I would use some 3M heavy duty double sided tape which can be bought at WalMart or an auto parts store.

Just remove it, should be fine if your car didn't live outside its whole life. I recently pulled my 16 year old BSMs off my 2000 Black FRC and you can't tell they were ever there. Fishing line and heat to remove them, and a magic eraser wheel on a drill to remove the glue. The rest is just polishing away any minor scratches.

In case you are interested, here is a step by step process I put together showing the removal.

Go slow and start with a small piece (quarter panel). Check each panel as you remove in case you find fading or mismatch. I tried removing the BSMs on my silver 04 and rand into trouble. No harm, no fowl as I was able to clean up and reapply. 3M outdoor double sided tape from Lowes. It's solid as a rock.

Use some WD-40 on the BSM before and during the process of cutting them off with the fishing line...it keep down the friction and breaking the line... after removal IF you haven't touched it with anything else the eraser wheel works great to remove the remaining adhesive... other methods work as well...

I used 90# test line and got a couple of pieces of dowel rod about 4" long to wrap the string around to be able to saw back and forth as you work down the side... keep it as close to the car as you can....
