Default Need Diagrams and fuse IDs for C5 fuse boxes

I don't own the manuals for the 1999 C5. I am considering hard wiring my Radar Detector. I have located diagrams with fuse IDs for the under hood fuse box. But, I cannot locate the diagram and fuse IDs for the footwell fuse box.

Not looking for an electrical schematic. I cannot read those things. I just want a layout diagram with descriptions of what fuse controls what component.

Can anyone provide images of both?

You don't need the manuals for doing this. If you go into the footwell area above and to the left of the fusebox, you should find a three-wire plug not connected to anything. There should be a black wire, a red and an orange. You have a black for ground, red should be keyed power, and orange should be always hot (I think, you should check). This is what I have my V1 powered by. Good luck!

Jeff, what's the story with that plug? Seems like a nice source for my "interior cruise nite lights" .

I will check for that wire bundle and see if it is always on or not. Like Chasboy said, it might be a great power source for cruise lights.

When you find it, it will be a male and female plug with one end disappearing into the wiring harness some where and the other end has the three wires just cut off and not attached to anything. Up until 2003, GM built the cars with this plug provided for owner to add in their own accessories. I believe it was in 2004 that they deleted this small feature. It is how I wired in my Valentine1 and my new radio. It can also provide constant hot for items that might need it. Look to the upper left corner of the footwell fuse box to find it.

The factory did leave a bundle of 3 wires that were "blunt cut and taped over" in the passenger foot well fuse box to the left of the BCM (large silver box). At least from the factory those wires were NOT terminated in a plug of any sort. The wire colors are:

Black = ground

Orange = constant 12V fused by #7 in IP fuse box

Yellow = switched 12V fused by #11 in the IP fuse box

This was done on 97 - 2003 C5's but was deleted on the 2004. Don't bother asking how I know it was deleted on the 04....
Actually what I have found in my own cars, a '98 and an '03, was that on both if I looked up several inches from the cutoff and taped wires was a male/female plug where you could detach the wires. My cars did
have them and I bought both new so I know nobody added them.

If you don't have an owners manual here is the link to a free download that I use from time to time:

Lots and lots of good info about the car!!!
Perfect. Will printout for future reference. This should help with other troubleshooting as well.

Yep, it looks like me 99 C5 has the three wires located just to the left of the BCM. I used them top power my hard wired Escort/Passport Radar Detector. I used the ground and yellow wires so that the detector will turn off when I shut off the car.

Works great!
