Default Headlights

Threw in ten brightest silverstars they sell - for $100 they'd better be good - will see in a bit on the way home. Also cleaned up the plastic surround. Thanks to Froggy video on YouTube for some quick pointers...

They look good but I need to raise them up a bit. Astounding how many soccer moms want to hang with me in their Sienna minivans at 75 - this thing gets everyone seriously aggravated!

The Vette gets em wet.

I'm looking for a head light upgrade and wanted to see how these rank. My night vision isn't that good.

I got 4 Philips 9011 HIR bulbs. At least they're supposed to be HIR. I'll post up how they work out. I need to take the Dremel to them to fit the 9005 and 9006 sockets. I think a couple of lightning bugs would be better than what's in there.

A local shop suggested Sylvania 9006 LEDs. Anybody try these (or anything like them)? How would that compare to the Radioflyer Innovations HIDs (other than being less expensive)?

My light solution was cheap, reliable and works- Did the dremel tool mod to a set of Silverstar 9005s, polished the lenses with PlastX, aimed 'em and voila... Pattern and illum better than my wife's BMW HIDs.

Please keep us posted how it works. I don't want to shell out the $$$ for HIDs right now and if this is a viable alternative that significantly increases the light output (and have horrendous glare that blinds on coming traffic) then I wouldn't mind trying them.

It's all about trimming the tabs to make them fit...

Google has plenty of posts...

So does youtube...

I don't believe Sylvania makes and LED for the headlights. Even if they did, the output from an LED bulb in the OEM housing would have the same downsides as an HID bulb but with the added challenge of getting the headlight doors to operate normally without using a large and dangerous resistor.

The best way to harness additional light output is with projector optics which creates the most effective pattern for visibility at night.

George, my C5 has fog lights that I don't want to tinker with right now. If I install your bi-xenon solution will the fogs work as before?

The Bi-xenon ACA headlights have no effect on your fog light circuit. If they work now, they will continue to work.

I'm thinking of doing the same. Buying the hi-beam 9011 HIR1 and using a dremel to make them fit in the low beam (9006). Anyone have any pictures as to how it looks compared to stock low beam?

....Here's my 2 cents worth, I installed the 9011 HIR bulbs in my factory housings 3 years ago and I can attest that they are 'clearly' a better and more brighter bulb, here's the BUT, the only down side is that they still cast a yellowish light that I can't stand. I think the only bulb I never tried was Sylvania's Silverstars. I'm still hoping that a reasonable solution pops up in the near future to improve lighting with the factory housings. Next step ACA's, if those don't work for me I'll have to bite the bullet, save my nickels, and buy Sun Guns or Radioflyer lights !!...

I suggest you take a look a Radioflyer lights. Plug and play. Easy install and the price is reasonable. With that being said I bought corvette mods HID lights what a pain in the ****. I had to hit my brights to lower my buckets. When radio flyer came along and easy install. Difference in night and day. Check it won't cost you anything. Best on the market. Plus customer service is great . That my 2 cents

...Hey, I'm retired on a pension with three kids in college, and when you say, price is reasonable, well I'm presently not in a position to throw $ 1,200.00 at a set of headlights right now, maybe experimenting with different bulb types, but my kids education comes first. I 'appreciate' your feedback, and I'm very familiar with the products that RadioFlyer has made for years. Not trying to offend anyone that can simply purchase these at a whim and call it reasonable though, many of us can't or we would all have them. Thanks again 'stingray'....
