dealership shorted me a quart of oil 1200 miles ago should i be worried
For as long as i have had my corvette my dealer has always put in 7 quarts of oil in my c5. 2 months ago i had my oil changed and apparently they only gave me 6 quarts. I checked my oil 2 days ago and it wasn't even on the dip stick. I added a quart and now its full. The Dealership acknowledged thier mistake and told me to bring my car in to check it out. Is there anything i should be worried about. I drive my car like i stole it so i hit 6k rpm multiple times a day and if i even use 4th- 6th gear once a week that's too much. I am kinda worried since my car was running rough when i was short oil its calmed down now i have the right amount in.
Its a 99 6sp if that matters.

Do you check your oil pressure occasionally? How was the oil pressure during this time... I would not expect a quart low on oil to hurt your motor if the oil pressure was normal...JMHO

me too, I have never trusted anyone else !!! If you have a fullsize GM truck I guarantee they don't grease half of the fittings. (too hard to get at, I installed 90 degree fittings at many places)

Gonna have to start doing that. I do a 1k check of all fluids.

I don't suppose you got "low oil level" warnings?

My wifes car always leaked oil after I took it to that quick lube place but never when I changed it myself. I realized the kids were told never to overtighten the filter and they were afraid to tighten it properly.

My 99 said i was low when i was about a 1/2 qt low and on a slight hill. I thought it was a little touchy being it was only a 1/2 qt but glad i have it. I thought all C5's have an oil level sensor.

I had them flush the brake fluid, radiator fluid, and change the oil. Upon picking the car up, I pulled the dipstick to check the oil level and was surprised to see the level only to the bottom of the hash marks.
I came home and read up on the forum, and the level should be halfway at least but better to be at the top of the hash marks. I picked up a quart of Mobil 1 5w-30 and added about 3/4 of it until the level registered to the top of the hash marks.
I guess they shorted me 3/4-1 quart of oil as well. What gives?!

Owners manual says oil capacity is 6 1/2 quarts. That usually brings the level to about 1/2 way between the marks on the stick. (less on some cars and more on others).
Unless you change the oil yourself you will not know where the manual suggested capacity shows on your dip stick.

But, to your point the only way to know where the proper oil level should indicate on the dip stick is to change it yourself.

If the invoice says 6 qts then the bozo that changed the oil never checked the proper capacity for your car. I would give the service manager a piece of my mind and likely would be the last they would ever see of me. As always YMMV.
As evidenced by the OP's comments in his opening post, his stealership uses 7 qts normally. I personally use 7 in mine and have been flamed by Forum members many times for "overfilling" the oil. Got my flame resistant jokeys on this morning so I'm ready for that......

Following quote from the 2003 GM Service Manual, page 6-195 (excerpt from Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement > Installation Procedure):
Quote:
6. Fill the engine with the approximate amount and type of oil. Refer to Capacities - Approximate Fluid on page 0-36 and Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations on page 0-36 in Maintenance and Lubrications.
7. Run the engine for 3 minutes.
8. Raise the vehicle.
9. Thoroughly inspect the oil filter and oil pan drain plug area for leaks.
10. Allow the engine to cool for a minimum of 3 minutes.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Check the engine oil level.
13. Top-off the engine oil to the full mark on the oil level indicator (dipstick), if necessary.
