You do not have to take the ten grand...They have to provide you with a car of similar value and mileage. However... How do you walk away from such a horrific accident with out any aches and pains ???.. BTW many pains show up a few days after an accident... Don't sign anything...Make sure you are ok first. then go find a similar car, do not settle without getting whole again, both physically , mentally, and monetarily
Glad you are ok.. Your accident is a testimonial to the design and integrity of the C5 platform.

That is some impressive hit the old lady took for you.
There is another one out there waiting for your love and attention. Once you're past the grieving, go make a C5 happy. It will be a rewarding experience.

I bought a 92 C4 this winter for $2000. I got it running for another $1500. It had no A/c or stereo, had 175,000 miles on it. It got caught in a flood in July and was declared totaled. I received a check for $9200. Bought my new to me 98 C5 for $9500. Insurance is very fair now a days. Good luck to you, glad you are OK.

Those are some hard hits, you are so lucky to be able to walk away from that one! If you haven't already done it get to a medical facility to document your injuries. Also, consult with a good recommended personal injury attorney as fast as possible, tomorrow isn't soon enough! Sometimes injuries or the extent of injuries may take time to show and the effects can go on for years. Very sorry for the loss of your baby, but very happy you weren't hurt worse than you were. You may not feel it now, but you are a very lucky man! Best wishes to you and take good care of yourself.

I still am not sure of my options are? Glad to hear you guys pitching in. Honestly speaking, ONLY God could have prevented me from harm, and the C5 is a testimony to it's design (flying right in front of a moving truck in opposite direction). May be I should contact GM for giving my testimony for the Corvettes... It broke into shreds taking all the impact and I didn't even get a band aid. My biggest hurt is the emotional affects I feel - we were kinda married for 12 yrs.
I have not taken any settlement from the insurance, or signed anything yet! If they can get me into another car just like that, with similar condition, that would be ideal. Or if they make an acceptable offer, I may consider getting a C6. C6 body/etc is smaller than C5 and maybe more tight, and a lil added HP. But nothing looks like a C5. A good looking C5 is still an exotic car (to me).
What are my options: Can I remove my parts from it? Like the T1 sway bars, Z06 diff, Z06 Ti exhaust, Blackwing air intake, etc? Can I sell it for parts? Buy it back? Or sell to a junk yard? Or let the insurance keep it?

Insurance dealings
Years back my daughter totaled a car , insurance Co whipped out the NAPA book and showed me the car value
Years later I was in a wreck, car was totaled , I got a copy of the NADA book , but this time the insurance company comes out with a red book , argument starts over the 30 % difference. Now they come out with a 3rd book and want to average the 3 prices. Stand your ground , I got 100 less than I requested but over 1000 more than they first offered

Just an add to of my post above, and this is just my opinion, but its based on an awful lot of experience. I'll say it once again, and I'm certainly not trying to talk down to you, get to a good and trusted attorney as fast as possible. Until then don't talk to ANYONE until you speak with that attorney. Saying the wrong thing, even innocently, to the wrong person can have an enormous impact on how this will go for you. Best wishes!

Appreciate all the uplifting comments. I do have insurance, however, the C5 with 80K miles according to KBB is barely priced at $10K. I had suspension mods, transmission mods, air intake & exhaust mods - which I know they won't consider. But what bothers me more is the car was flawless in every way. Some people would ask me if it was the new Corvette? Sadly, the insurance won't see it that way. And the guy who started the whole thing, I don't have any info on him, because I was too shocked to act/think normal at the time. She was my best friend....gosh I miss her!

I have thought about this a lot just for the OP's dilemma, standard insurance will not cover what a lot of us have into our cars. Maybe this is what I need to push me into going with a Grundy or Hagerty where you set the replacement price. It might be higher but worth it ???

Glad you walked away and are ok but like others suggest, make sure you get thoroughly checked out.
Sorry about your C5, those pictures are a sad sight. Hope you find a nice pristine Corvette to replace her.

WOW, your Corvette really took a beating and truly saved your life...no joking. I feel for you and your loss. The C5 platform is truly a marvel and these pics are proof. Hope someone that was responsible for the design is reading this thread so they can pat themselves on the back for a job well done! May they live long lives. Greetings, Rob
