Default trunk lid not popping up

All of a sudden when I release the trunk lid the mechanism seems to work but the lid stays in place and I need to pry it open with a shim. Any idea what could be wrong and what would be involved in fixing it?

Check out this thread, lots of suggestions.

You could start with new struts, they do tend to fade over time. I just had to replace the hood struts on our 2003 Acura as the hood kept falling when open. The struts were good on my 2000 hardtop (they easily hold it open), so I ordered the popper and it works fine and is a lot cheaper than buying new struts.

Good luck... GUSTO

Probably weak struts, they are cheap enough. Most people use a pop up spring. About $15. Do a search for Corvette trunk pop up spring, dozens of vendors sell them.

The pop-up springs mentioned above are a good way to fix the trunk.

As mentioned above also some WD-40 goes a long way. Lube the trunk locking mechanism and be generous. Bet it helps.

You can DIY the pop up springs with a quick visit to Lowe's, Home Depot, or your favorite hardware store. I bought one compression spring that was about 4 inches long, cut it in half, bent the cut end into a circle just large enough for the mounting bolt to fit through and put one on each side of the latch. Finished them off with hole plugs that just fit. Struts may also now or eventually need to be replaced if the trunk lid is not being firmly held up.

Enough to easily get your fingers under the edge.

I did the same thing with the spring and a rubber stopper. $3 spent and works great. The trunk now pups up a good inch!
