Default Video How To - How to Jack Up rear of Vette for service

Although fairly simple, this comes up often, so I made a quick video of one way to raise the back of the corvette for service. This is of a C5, but other models are very similar.

I basically do the same thing, but instead of a piece of wood I use an 8"x8"x1/4" steel plate that I stick on the pad of the floor jack.

I use wood when lifting the rear to evenly distribute the weight and protect the aluminum cradle. I always drive the car up on Race Ramps or Trax Jacks before lifting the rear so that I don't damage the spoiler and the front facia.

Default Jacking the car for servicing

Harbor Freight has a low profile jack and a 'cross bar'.
I've included photos.
No worries during jacking.
I LOVE it.

Forgot to mention, because the front is so low, I have 2 X 8s to raise the front.

215.00 for both the front and rear! I didn't see where you could buy just one, front or rear bar. Shipping is free!

There are called MyLiftStands. They are great if you do not have room for a full-blown lift or don't want to take up the whole garage with a lift in the way. I have 4 of them to lift the whole car in the air and they are very we built...

These are $44 bucks now at HF - not a bad deal really. Or if you have time and some scrap, build your own for a custom touch.

Nice video. I would have one recommendation. I always use a secondary or redundant back up system too. For example, you can put your car on jack stands, and use two other jacks to support the car from the sides using jacking pucks; or one can also just place the wheel you take off under the side of the car on each side. No matter how you do it, you have a backup, just in case a jack stand fails.
