I think the most bang for the buck might be BF GOODRICH G-Force Comp-2 A/S.

It depends a lot on how you drive, how many miles you put on it and your budget. Sounds like your last set died of old age so getting the very best tire might not be the best for you.

the answer is.....it depends. You live in NY so you need something different than I need in FL. Sounds like you don't drive a lot....my suggestion would be to get a set of something A/S like the previous poster mentioned....something more suited to your environment and will probably be cheaper and serve your needs.

and FWIW tire life is about 6 years whether you drive it or not....I know it sucks to trash tires that "LOOK" good but it sucks worse to have a failure at speed.

The latest issue of Consumer Reports rates what they call ultra high performance summer tires. Looking only at the tires that show up on Tire Rack as compatible with the C5, the tires ranked in order of rating are:

1. michelin pilot super sport (about $900 for a set from Tire Rack) (CR overall score 82)
2. Bridgestone Potenza ($640) (score: 76)
3. Hankook Ventus V12 evo2 ($572) (score: 76)
4. Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 ($466) (score:74)
5. BF Goodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2 ($606) (score: 70)

Each tire was rated for dry and wet handling and braking, noise, ride, rolling resistance and tread life.

All-season tires of note are:

Michelin Pilot Sport A.S 3+ ($977) (78)
Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 ($715) (76)
BF Goodrich all season g-Force COMP-2 A/s ($592) (74)
General G-Max AS-03 ($485) (70)

There were tires rated by CR not showing as compatible with the C5 on tire rack, and a very few tires on Tire Rack not rated by CR. Usually there was something very close (i.e., Sumimoto HTR III vs II) but the III was rated poorly so I didn't fret about it.

I have the Hankooks and am very happy with them. I am surprised at their wear. CR states that they are rated for 35,000 miles. Mine have close to 30,000 and still have plenty of tread.

Among the summer tires, the Michelins, Firestones and Bridgestones are also rated for 40k; the rest for 35k. For the all-seasons, the goodrichs are rated for 60k, the michelins are rated for 55k, the Generals for 50k and the Contis for 45k.

So perhaps that was a longwinded way of agreeing about the Goodrich A/S. If you want a dedicate summer tire, the best bargains are probably the Hankooks and the Firestones. If you want the best tire without regard to price, the Michelin wins in both categories.

If you are going to drive your car in the winter, your best bet would be to get a set of A/S tires. If you will be storing the car in the winter and only doing warmer weather driving, it's hard to beat the value and performance of a set of Hankook Ventus V12 tires. I have them on my car and have been very pleased with them. And the price is very good for high performance tires.

Michelin Pilot ZP sports are my tire of choice.
Once you've had 'em you likely won't go back to GY.

Oh man, I HAVE to get in on this. HANKOOK VENTUS EVO2 HANDS DOWN! the BEST tire I have ever had on the street. TONS of grip, SUPER predictable, and a high grip limit in rain plus, they are way cheap, AND as quiet as econo tires

In my honest opinion, if I may be so bold, they feel like next gen technology tires. I did however go from 285 rears, to 305, and from heavy knock offs, to forged monoblocks but the EVO2's, are definitely an improvement over the first gen tires I had on my old set.

There have been many threads about tires and in general everyone is happy with the tires they have on them (as long as it's not the OEM runflats). Very few people have a basis for comparing one popular brand against another. So while consumer reports may have its shortcomings, they at least have compared the tires against each other in actual driving conditions. Each tire was put on a 2015 Mustang and driven 16,000 miles for the purpose of comparison. (They used 8 Mustangs for the test.)

Part of the choice has to do with what you are looking for. At the moment, road noise is an issue for me. The Hankooks are much quieter than the runflats that I took off the car, but the CR article indicates that the Conti all-seasons are the quietest. I'll be having sound-deadening material put in my car next spring and maybe then it will be less of an issue. If that goes away, I may stick with the Hankooks. Their rating was hurt slightly by a below-average rating for hydroplaning. Since I never drive the car in rain, that's just not a concern for me.

Bottom line: buy the current issue of CR and look at the report in detail. It is better than the anecdotal reports you will get here.

Funny thing is the above is the same rule for "running shoes".
After 700 to 800 miles, they still look new but have lost their bounce/spring/resilience. Get rid of them.

Granted I live in Florida. Hankook Ventus V12 for sure. I went from Toyo Proxis Ti Sports to the V12's and it is like I'm driving a different car. Smooth ride, precise handling, great grip dry or wet. Tire Rack delivered to my local Tire Kingdom in like one day. Like others have said above the price was right too..

SW Florida here and I'm going to need to re-shoe my '03 before long. Going with the V12's too. The car had the Mich. run-flats on it when I bought it, looking forward to the difference!

I wish somehow I could try the Hankooks and compare them to my Bridgestones. I bought the Potenzas 4 years ago and love them. They were just a little more than the Hankooks, but they are smooth, quiet, grip great and seem to wear really well. I will have to go with them again unless I can drive a C5 with the Hankooks.

I have to tell you that I run the Conti DWS on my C4 and I'm very happy with them. I run Nitto Invo's on my C5 and I am happy with both.

I think people rate Michelins high because they pay so much for them I wouldn't buy another set if you paid me. With 3 Corvettes in the house I can say I have had better experiences with BFG Toyo and Nitto and in case you are wondering....

the 99 has 139K
the 07Z has 94K
the 12 has about 25K
and the 02 that was replaced by the 12 had 180K

yeah, we have been through some tires
